Misc / Open / Airfix kitstarter
« on: May 30, 2015, 08:28:45 AM »
I saw refernce to this yesterday:

http://www.airfix.com/uk-en/news/introducing-airfix-kitstarter/

Where Airfix propose to reproduce old kits if there are enough pre-orders (500).

I've always fancied the old CB450 model kit; and the Golden Arrow from the early 80's. Airfix also produced a CR750 which might be of interest? I'm not sure that the initial optinos - Bluetits and Bullfinches are my cup of tea though.

Misc / Open / cool bike for sale - interesting bodywork
« on: March 21, 2015, 02:23:27 PM »
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1975-Honda-CB500-CB-500-Twin-Classic-Bobber-cafe-racer-barn-find-project-/261818411186?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cf597e8b2#ht_617wt_1074

If the link works - I love the bodywork on this - some sort of dragbike? If only it was a bit nearer to me I would be tempted.

Misc / Open / Stainless steel bleed nipples

Has anyone sourced these for a reasonable price. My old GSXR is getting some attention but needs 2 per caliper and the Wem*t* price is £3.49 each!  Little bit pricey for me.

CB500/550 / 550k vs 550f petrol tank question
« on: February 13, 2015, 08:15:58 PM »
So just a question about petrol tanks - on my 550/650 parts-bin special I have a 550F (i think) which has the filler screw-cap hidden under a metal flap. Cost me £20 - which felt reasonable.

Are 550k tanks rarer / more expensive / or equally available? Just planning ahead as I would like to have one at some point as I like the narrower tank style.

thanks!

Misc / Open / Buntingford Classic Car Show 2014
« on: September 03, 2014, 04:24:29 PM »
As it says in the title! Saturday Sept 6th - so this weekend between 11am and 4pm.

Last year was sunny and warm. The main street in Buntingford - an old coaching town - was closed and filled up with classic cars and bikes. There was a Bluesy-type live music venue at one end, something modern in the middle of the street and live rock'n'roll at the other end....each music venue conveniently located outside a pub!  Also BBQ's cooking on the street.

I assume it will be the same this year and just as good, so it's certainly recommended. Sadly. I'll be watching my wife compete in a triathalon instead of ogling classic metal.

Someones piccies of last year are here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neS9e7mQe7Q

Misc / Open / CB on the TV?
« on: August 22, 2014, 06:42:46 PM »
Have you seen the irritating insurance advert where they have a place called 'landofgogogocompare...' or something similar?

There's a shot of a garage and behind the annoying people talking I'm sure I spotted a four pipe CB - I just can't make out what it is as it isn't on for long. Anyone else spot it? Any guesses as to which model it is?

Misc / Open / Clip from the Cat & Fiddle
« on: August 22, 2014, 06:38:52 PM »
I lived there near there in the Nineties and used to really enjoy riding the LC between Macclesfield and Buxton when it was quiet. Always plenty of tricky bits though and it needed treating with respect.  I drove that route a few years ago and was surprised at the level or signs / cameras / enforcement that had descended on it.

..but seeing a clip like this makes me realise that some people shouldn't be allowed out. Just glad he walked away from it, and he's pretty lucky too.

According to my maths, that's this weekend - so I plan to visit, either with family or just browsing in my own- and with music from 10.30 (Rockabilly...Footstombing Blues), it sounds like fun. Hope the rain holds off!

Other Bikes / Which gearbox oil for an old Triumph?
« on: August 09, 2013, 06:33:46 AM »
Any thoughts on what I should use for gearbox oil for an old Triumph - T100 500cc from 1960. The Haynes manual says SAE 90 gear oil, but I've not been able to locate that in the local car/Halfords in Hertford..

Does anyone here use anything widely available for this type of application?

-  I'm on holiday next week so looking forward to getting down to some fettling!

...has a great cover photo but I've lost my camera lead so I can't post it....

Where's My Old Bike? / TWR157M - monoshocked 500/4?
« on: March 15, 2013, 08:41:24 PM »
I'm sure it will still be out there... be interesting to see if anyone on the forum owns it or sees it around. Last seen in the early Nineties, heading to W.Yorkshire wearing blue/black flame paint-job.

CB650 / Tapered Drain/Sump bolts
« on: August 20, 2012, 09:15:22 PM »
Flicking through Practical Classics Car mag today & found mention in the letters page of tapered drain plugs as a way of solving stripped threads. It didn't give much detail - so a quick look online tells me that these are a form of self-tapping plug / thread slightly larger than the standard and are used to recut a thread when the original has been stripped.

So -anyone heard of these? Used them?....used them on a motorbike...such as a CB650...

..as the pool of oil on the shed floor and my sump plug giving little resistance seems to indicate that I have a problem!

CB650 / What are these holes in my frame for?
« on: July 01, 2011, 08:02:47 PM »
I have a couple of threaded holes in my 550 frame - on the frame spar beneath the mounting points for the coils on the right-hand side. Any one else have them...and know what they are for?

...maybe it's actually a factory special race frame and worth a small fortune....

Does anyone else listen to the videos on UTube whilst they post.....and does it give away your age?!

I've just listened to  'Fiction Factory - Feels Like Heaven; and now enjoying Enola Gay. Cool!
