Out & About / Winterised classics
« on: November 02, 2022, 10:16:20 PM »
With the classics away now for the winter, still have this mollycoddled runabout. Quick blast out today before the rain this afternoon. Most enjoyable even at 10C.😂

Misc / Open / Mid 70’s price lists.
« on: September 23, 2022, 11:05:41 AM »
This may or may not be of interest, one of my good friends here in Orkney loaned me his original brochures and price lists from 1975 and 1976. I do remember someone else posting similar here but can’t remember the years. Right where’s my white gloves 😁😁

CB500/550 / Rectifier.
« on: September 22, 2022, 07:59:33 PM »
I bought one of these cheap as chips (under a fiver) rectifiers off fleabay a couple of years ago and fitted it to my 550 after my old original one fried. Just thought I would let folk know I am now approx 1200mls covered and all wiring and unit looks brand new. I would recommend if your not too annal about what goes behind your near side cover.  I must add it was someone on here that recommended it to me.

CB750 / Ignition timing.
« on: September 12, 2022, 09:25:22 PM »
Played about with the ignition timing a bit this afternoon and had interesting findings. I have a Dyna S ignition fitted to my 750 which I got with it but suspected it was a little off the mark. I started by setting using the static timing marks, then setting using advanced timing marks (which is recommended) this method required a bit of alteration from the static settings. Then the final check was with the strobe light and this also required me to adjust the advanced timing mark setting. So to sum up it just isn’t accurate enough to set the ignition without a strobe??

Out & About / MacMillan bike run 2022
« on: September 12, 2022, 06:19:49 PM »
Had a great run out and about yesterday accompanied with good banter and catch up with like minded fellow bikers.
Covering the East mainland with a pit stop then to west mainland and return to Kirkwall for raffle. 197 bikes, quite something to be part of. Ian and I were on our classics 350 four and 750k3. Much enjoyment, covering around 70 odd miles (although I had an extra little run before the start)
Here’s an aerial pic of the pit stop.
Quite a queue for the mince rolls and coffee. (Think I had had mine by the time this pic was taken)

CB750 / NGK plugs??
« on: September 04, 2022, 03:03:57 PM »
Guys and gals, opinions on NGK plugs. My experience is both good and bad. I’ve had brand new faulty, and some that just weren’t that good to be honest. Too many NGK fakes maybe? I’ve ordered a set of Denso equivilant to try in the 750 see if there’s any difference. Starting and idling not that hot, but runs good right up through the revs when warmed up. Plugs are quite sooty looking after a long run.

CB500/550 / Squeak gone!
« on: August 21, 2022, 01:19:20 PM »
Hi all, just had the 550 out a run after front brake Caliper clean and Dot 5 upgrade. Cant believe that horrible squeak has gone (for now). As read hear under someone’s recommendation just mearly removed outer edge of pads and that appears to have sorted it. Happy Days!😁 (And quieter too)

Out & About / At last a descent day.
« on: July 16, 2022, 12:04:54 PM »
Spare afternoon and it’s a nice day. Went out on the 750 yesterday for run around the west mainland of Orkney. About 60 miles covered. She runs great and we have all gears. Maybe a bit lumpy on idle, something to tinker with over the winter months. Hopefully not idling much over the summer. 😃

CB750 / 5th gear problem???
« on: April 25, 2022, 12:16:53 PM »
This is not good! After doing just over 100 odd miles or so after rebuild without any serious hitches I was feeling quite good about the running and handling of the bike, that is until coming back from a run a few days ago 5th gear didn’t engage properly until the third or fourth attempt. I thought that’s strange hasn’t done that before. I have removed cover and had a look but couldn’t see any problems with selector mech. Seems to change into every gear no problem spinning back wheel. But out on the road this seems to be happening every time. I don’t like the crunch of one gear spinning against the other without engaging so I’m reluctant to go out again until I get to the bottom of the problem. I’m fearing the worst which is that this is not going to be sorted from the outside of the gearbox.😡
