Project Board / Re: 750 K1 project
« on: September 09, 2019, 10:28:51 PM »

The early tanks vent to air from the top generally,  they have a built in air oil separator inside the tank that splits oil vapour to drip back into oil supply,  with air going out to ground.  This is from description in KO manual,  you'd have to look at later manuals to see your K model.

They have to vent both tank and crankcase,  ultimately to atmosphere, to prevent overpressure in engine.

Sealed completely, it'll try to push oil out of oil seals etc.  Also interferes with dry sump system on 750 as you don't need either vacuum or pressure exerting against oil pump operation.

Thanks, I understand what it's doing now, mine has the built in separator inside the tank, which as you say vents to ground from the top, the crankcase connects to the bottom.

Just sat and read your story from start to finish, great read you should write a book! I can identify with a lot of your experiences, the highs and lows, master cylinders  >:(  and getting a lot of pleasure from simple things like transforming some part with a bit of paint or succeeding in doing something that you've never done before. Good luck with the rest of the rebuild and I'm looking forward to reading the next chapter!  ;)

Pleased to report that I've had the oil tank repaired, I've painted it and it's now fitted to the bike along with whatever else I have that is ready to bolt on. I need to sort a brake out next as the bike is getting difficult to stop when I roll it back into the garage from my hill of a drive! :o Can anyone enlighten me as to how the oil tank works? In particular what does the pipe connected to the crank case do? Is it just a breather?   Thanks!  :)

Does the 750 have the same right footrest layout as the 400?
There's a roll pin to locate the spring that holds the footrest up when using the kickstart.
Good shout but no they must be different, there's no roll pin in my footrest set up.  :-\

I have a vague memory of seeing a master cylinder with a roll pin in vertically between reservoir and lever pivot

Cheers Bryan , Yes, I did think that might be  the location when I looked through the parts manual but it turned out to be for a rubber bush which replaced a cam type fitting on earlier models which apparently adjusted lever distance ?

I can only recall one roll pin on a K1 and that holds the kick start spline and that one is too small  ;)

Cheers Graham, that's very reassuring! I know the kick start pin is in, but have no idea where this one has come from. I was beginning to panick!  :-\

CB750 / Spring pin location?

Can anyone identify where this spring pin should fit in 71 K1?  It measures 5*22 mm, I have it labelled as wheel hub but cant see where it would fit in either hub. Looks like I've mislabelled it. I've searched my manual and parts book from front to back but can't find it in those either. :-\

You should still get a certificate to authorise your new plates being made up, not that you really need one. It will probably come a week or so after your V5 along with the returned documents from your application.  :)

Sorted!
Very nice - mind sharing who did those for you?

It was Allenchrome  who did them after all. At first they said over the phone that they couldn't do them but I called in on my way home after a weekend in York to collect  my zinc plated parts and spoke to a bloke called Dave who after examining them again said he would have a go at doing them and post them back to me. I was expecting to wait ages for them but I was very surprised to get them back after only 4 days!  Cost was £35 inc postage . They have  always been pretty efficient  but that was very quick!  I suppose they had already had them for 5 weeks though with the rest of the stuff I sent for zinc plating!   :o

Just looking at the carburettor gasket kits on DS website, he does a Honda one and an aftermarket set at nearly half the price of the Honda set,  anyone used the aftermarket one? They ok? This is just the o rings and bowl gaskets. Cheers  :)
