I seem to have a fair bit of movement in the rear hub. The wheel has just been rebuilt and is off the bike but whilst I was bolting the sprocket back on I noticed that the flange lifts 3 or 4 mm out of its housing - is this normal? If not, any ideas what may be causing it.

From your experiences what is the best way to install a full engine into a bare frame? Is the “lay it on its side” method recommended or is there a better way?

Already got myself a nice little Bobber but this restoration is to be a tribute to the previous [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] owner who passed away a few months ago. He stacked this bike over 20 years ago and I’m trying to get it back to the way he would have remembered it.

I checked the Andy Cepok site. He sure has a lot of stuff available for the K3 but I couldn’t find a seat. He has them for the earlier K models up to 1976 but I think the K3 has a different pan as it’s a slightly longer seat. I’m more than happy to be wrong on this

After stripping off the seat cover and foam this is what the pan looks like. due to a big prang it is a few inches shorter than it should be. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

The tacho drive was actually ok except for the fact that we couldn’t get the damned cable out. Had to drill and re-tap the retaining screw.
I though the F2 tubes were longer by a good margin.

Thanks for the advice again guys. I will fire off an email to Phillpots in the morning.
The bent tubes are definitely 570mm as per spec.
Did you notice the massive hole in the crank casing - that required a new bottom end but everything is looking good now. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Good news about the fork ears, thank you.
Luton is a couple of hours away so would be doable (my brother lives there) but I’ve had someone look at the tubes and was advised that one may be salvageable but the really bent one is too far gone.
That mess you can see in the top left corner of the photo is the back end of the seat pan. It seems that after the initial front end impact the bike flipped and landed on the back end. The frame was bent in 3 places and was a category B write off. It was a very sorry sight. [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

I have ordered a set of fork stanchions for a CB550 K3. The specs required are 35mm diameter and 570mm length (part no. 51410-404-003)
The chap I’ve ordered them from says he can no longer get the exact ones I’ve ordered but can get another Honda set which measure 35mm diameter and 576mm long. He doesn’t know the part number or what model they are from.
Does anyone know if the slightly longer ones can be used in place of the originals and whether the original internal baffles and springs will be useable in this configuration.
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Is any one selling a seat for a 1977 550 K3. I’m not too bothered about the condition of the foam or seat cover but the pan needs to be sound (or at least a damn sight better than this one) [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Hi Oddjob.
The indicators are quite large so, going by what you have said, I would imagine that they are US spec. Both front indicator casings are in very good nick but only one remained totally intact - I will have to get a new lens for the other.
The rear indicators both need lenses and I will have to try and straighten out one of the casings (it is more square than round, lol) but I want to keep them.
Funny thing is the bike was UK registered from new so somebody must have changed the indicators out at some point!
As to a grab rail - it didn’t have one.
Will these fit the fork ears you have as I know there are different specs e.g 12mm and 10mm fittings?
