Yes they can, and were, back in the day we had one with a bent crank and taking the chance that it was maleable cast we had an approx 9 inch long bar turned so that an internal taper locked to the crank with an ht allen screw then carefull "whacked" the end with large hammer whilst clocking the bar on a turned portion concentric to the taper.
We got it to within 1 thou of concentric and the engine ran fine for as long as we had records of it(years)

All head gaskets are now thicker than Honda original due to no asbestos used in manufacture but the suppliers still give you the original size O rings so they dont seal as well.
If you go to the US site and look up Mark Paris (Hondaman) he can sdvise on size, i dont have all my books to hand

550 and 500 same shape but later ones had a connector bit, the screwed in retainer does not have a seal, only the big tim pressed plate

If the people who made it, or those that sold it didnt give you a wiring diagram in my opinion it aint worth using

No matter what set you need thicker O rings at the headgasket than those in the set

Dave, its only the later ones with a rubber seal, early ones the seal is the felt ring, i think i still used the caps with the bronze bushings though

Only thing i can think off is either something between case and shell or the disaster of a bent crank, i have built engines with all black shells with no rotational problems

Usually you find the collar more worn than the bushes, the early one is still available, but bloody expensive, the later one is not available but you can use the early one, preferably with the bolt having a grease nipple at each end rather than the one in middle of swing arm
