The re wiring doesn't faze me, I just want to know if the rotor/casing from a 500/550four will physically fit (I'm not into wasting money on her nighthawk >:( when I could be spending it on my bike! ;D) So if anyone knows, I'd love to hear from you

Don't know about tha, I still ride mine in the spirit the manufacturer intended, thrash the nuts off it, live at the red line! ;D CB750 F1's had "SUPER SPORT" on the tank, so I ride it accordingly, and use regular 530 non O ring chain, never broken one yet!

CB650 / 550 onto 650???
« on: August 29, 2011, 10:21:20 AM »
Hi  there, here's a real poser for you all. Does anybody know if it is possible to fit the iron rotor and charging coils from a CB500/550 four to the engine on a CB650 Nighthawk :P (SOHC) As the main engine castings seem fairly similar, I figure it would be a vast improvement to the charging reliability of my good lady's Nighthawk ;D. Have had no end of problems with the charging on it, whereas I have NEVER had problems with the older types (without brushes) I know there may be some degree of re wiring necessary, just need to know if the rotor will fit the crank, and the outer casing fit the crankcases. Any suggestions/ideas welcome( NOT suggesting putting a match to it, she loves it for some strange reason! ???)

No, not the monopoly, just he holds a LOT of spares for older Honda models ;D, and there are other places out there, but often much more expensive, and there is CMS in Holland, but they can be pricey for some bits, and if you really want expensive, try your local Honda dealer :o (If they dont laugh at you!)

Too true, we don't want  any idiots trying to hijack the events and turn them into riots! Although thankfully most proper bike fans will want it to go well and be publicised for all the right reasons :)

Wrong VIN number on the paperwork? Knowing the German police, had you been stopped and the vehicle been checked, it may well have been impounded, and you'd probably get a free stay at Colditz! DVLA are a bunch of idiots!

Thanks for that Pete. For the record, I am not a member of M.A.G. either, I'm another like you, do my own thing. But I was approached by some members of M.A.G. outside my local Honda dealers a couple of weeks back and handed a leaflet outlining these crazy ideas the eurocrats are trying to force through >:(, and I was so annoyed I had to try and get more people involved, hence the reason I posted this thread. So come on guys and girls, this will affect us all, we have to do something!

Thanks for your thoughts on this, there are groups doing this protest ride all over the country on that day, see M.A.G. website for your local area. As regards how will they police the ban on older bikes in towns/cities, our old enemy cctv, which is already used extensively for policing the congestion charge in London, and the low emission zone in London, anpr cameras spot you, and fine arrives in the post, the technology is already in place (see those little blue "coke cans" mounted on lamp posts all around the uk, they are anpr cameras to catch tax dodgers) big brother is watching us! And no, they probably wont force speed limiters on cars, too many potential votes to lose, whereas bikers have always been the minority, and unless we make a stand, THIS WILL HAPPEN >:( I urge everybody on this forum in the U.K. to check with their local bike club (even if you're not a member) about what their plan is for this protest, and join in, it's the only way to protect our future freedoms ;D

I don't know how many of you good people are aware of the latest barrage of anti bike legislation the E.U. morons are trying to batter us with, and although much of it wont affect us (Speed Limiters on new bikes!), a fair amount will, especially a ban on motorcycles over 7 years old from town/ city centres :o (emissions!) and compulsory wearing of full sleeve Dayglo jackets for all riders and pillion passengers :-[ (Mmm, wont that look cool on a  classic Honda?)It's another example of eurocrats trying to destroy our way of life, and if we DO NOTHING, it will be steamrollered through (Like the absurd human rights laws that allowed 2 child molesters to sue the government for the right to be allowed pornography in thier prison cells! >:() I'm not normally militant about things, but the Motorcycle Action Group is organising a mass ride/rolling road block to draw attention to this on September 25th, all I can do is hope as many of you as possible will take part and show how we feel about this. More info will be available on the M.A.G. website, also the Facebook page "The Devon Highwaymen" PLEASE check this out, and take part if you possibly can, this is getting frighteninly close to an outright ban on motorcycling (Which the E.U. would REALLY like) If you want to carry on riding your classic Honda, or indeed ANY older bike, DOING NOTHING IS NOT AN OPTION!

CB750 / Re: Anybody Know of anyone competent at welding fuel tanks???
« on: August 22, 2011, 12:00:18 AM »
The thought had crossed my mind, but I think it really needs the bad bits cutting out and new metal "let in", and it seems to be seeping through th side of the seam where the side meets the base, like the rust is porous. I can weld quite well, but I'm no sheet metal worker, and repairs to that seam would take a very skilled person to do it so it wouldn't show too badly when painted, but thanks for taking the time for the suggestion

Hi there, my 75 750F1 fuel tank gave up the ghost recently and commenced leaking fuel big time, a full tank gone in 3 days! :'( I took it off and found several small holes along the bottom edge near the fuel tap. Sealed these with Petro patch, which seemed to do the job. In the meantime, found another tank on fleabay, hand painted a vile shade of "toilet blue" (only way I can think of describing it!) It duly arrived, so I thought I'd have it sandblasted and painted as it is undented and free of filler, but before I could do this, the original started leaking again, >:( same side as before, but forward of the fuel tap this time, so reluctantly I fitted the toilet blue one. :-[ Guess what, after 3 days that one started leaking from the same area! Getting pi##ed off by now (petrol at

Only just read this thread, absolutely gutted by Honda and the attitude to Dave Silver. Does nobody in the big H realise that the best advert to sell new bikes is the sight and sound of 30+year old bikes running around, still working reliably enough to use as everyday transport? I also drive a 1958 landrover :-[ , crude, slow, and cold in winter (Heaters were an extra cost option until 1973!) but still it chugs on, often rescuing othe cars when the weather gets bad, and no problem getting parts from a main dealer (and more often than not, cheaper than pattern parts!) Long and short of it is, the local dealership has a 1950 series one landrover that they use as a recovery truck, and it's always parked in full view at the front of the shop, and many would be customers are swayed by the fact it is still so reliable. Honda could learn a lot from them, and how to treat customers of older models!
