You have to bend the tangs back to remove the trim but, they are prone to breaking if they are rusty.

What a lovely old film. It's a bit before my biking escapades started. Took test in 1978 on a CD175 with wooden brakes front and rear but just managed to stop in time to avoid the examiner for a pass 😁😁😁

Because a bike BUILT late in 74 is a 75 model as they were on ships for a lot of weeks and then in transport across the US (a big place) to get to dealers. Honda frame and engine numbers never match and engines are very difficult to date and people in US would sooner throw in a salvage engine than repair what they have.

Ahh okay - that makes sense! And so the dating of the title - is that correct or should it be '75? And when there are mismatched engine/frame dates, does the dating change? Is it based on the engine's age or the frame's?

I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you have a V5 that shows the correct VIN and engine number as they are on the bike, thats all that matters. As Bryan says, its probably had an engine change sometime, or even a frame change or both.

To me it looks like that VIN plate has been tampered with. The plate should also be positioned on the headstock if a USA bike (edit...sorry, it is on the headstock now i have put my glasses on !!). Also, frame and engine numbers never, ever match on old Hondas

What is it specifically people don’t like about PD carbs.  Is it just that they are a bit more difficult to set up accurately, because they are a “lean” carb to meet emissions regs?

They are a pain in the arse if the bike is not ridden regularly, ie, daily. They need constant fiddling with. Best place for them is the USA or in the bin.

I will continue with MOT's on my bikes, regardless of how well we look after them a second pair of eyes can only be a good thing, and yes we know an MOT is really only good on the moment of issue.
Agree. Trig takes it as a personal insult that I still have my Historics MOT'd. He maintains them to an exceptionally high standard and I know they will never, ever fail an MOT but for £20, piece of mind and an up to date record, I personally will keep having them done.

It's April 1st 2020 in your case Roy. Try anytime before this they will reject it. I changed 5 to Historic on Monday and the newest to qualify was September 1978 registered

You could try fitting the Suzuki damper thingies like on the GS750, they raise the mirrors a bit and im sure Julie posted an ebay number with longer arms.

If you mean the old style 2 sided blue v5..
Every time I've had one I've just filled it out with a cover note saying where it was from and why it wasn't updated...and a new v5c has arrived...
Doesn't work on a buff log book beacuse that's all hand written..and open to Tom foolery

If it doesn't show on the dvla website I'm affraid it doesn't show on the mot database....I found that out only last week.....

That's interesting Jason. In the past when registering a bike that was not on the DVLA system, ie, an import, the bike was entered on the MOT data base by the MOT tester with the VIN. You had to have an MOT to send to DVLA to register the bike. I wonder, as now you don't need an MOT to register an imported vehicle (or insurance cover note) if that function has been removed off the MOT testers options screen completely?.

I would like to keep the present number but as long as it ends up with the correct year reg that will do. Better get on and get it finished then if the rules are changing. Do you know anything about that?
No, but they change the rules and regs so often I'm just saying they 'may' change them, not that they definitely will 😀😀😀
