CB750 / CB750F1 Wiring
« on: June 15, 2019, 10:48:42 AM »
Finishing my final F1 project and trying to sort out wiring.

I bought a repro wiring loom from DSS, but having trouble finding the correct wiring diagram.

Its a UK bike reg in Feb 78, but suspect earlier manufacture, as I heard sales dropped off, delaying registrations.

It has a frame number CB750F-10406xx (x to hide)

The wiring diagrams I have all show the horn switch providing an earth to horns with a switched live feed to them .

My switch supplies a live feed to horns which have a permanent earth.

CB750 / CB750 SOHC K Crankcase engine number to model
« on: June 15, 2019, 10:36:29 AM »
One of the F1 projects I bought came with an earlier engine.

The number is CB750E-22653xx (x to hide)

I suspect it is a 73 K3, has smaller crank case vent pipe and chain oil feed, but would appreciate confirmation from more knowledgeable K experts.

Thanks

CB750 / CB750 F1 Rear indicator mounting plates
« on: May 15, 2019, 04:04:23 PM »
Has anyone come up with an alternative to the plates with the earthing wires on F1 that mount on to the rear rail on the elongated slot?

I have the rubbers with two holes, but not the plates.

Still working on my fourth CB750 restoration and have come to the point of assembling the camshaft rocker gear.

Going through the rockers, many have the hardening cracking off at edge.

I dont want to fit in that condition.

I have enough B arms and some extra but only 3 good A arms  :(

The pn is 14431 300 030

Does anyone have a good spare A arm, can swap for a good B arm or may have something you are looking for, as have built up quite a few extra parts from buying various job lots.

Alternatively if you have one for sale.

It does seem odd that my A arms have started to chip, interested in others experience.

CB750 / CB750F1 Valve guide reaming
« on: November 19, 2018, 10:19:46 AM »
Just spoken to guy that usually does my machining and has fitted a new guide for me.

Only one was needed and bought a genuine Honda one from DS

He says that a non standard reamer is required and he does not have one :-(

Anyone have one to loan or recommend where to get?

Just off to collect.

I am making progress on my final? CB750, but slower progress than first ones.

Frame and wheels just about there, assembled lower engine.

Cylinders rebored and ready to paint, now need to finish top end and make up a set of carbs from all the bits ::)

Thanks

CB750 / CB750 Alternator lead
« on: September 26, 2018, 03:55:51 PM »
I have just received a new lead from 4 into 1 purchased through Ebay.

Came through very quickly from US

Looks good and came out at £22 inc postage.

Alternator Wire Harness - 31110-300-154 - CB750 CB750K CB750F - 1969-1978

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alternator-Wire-Harness-31110-300-154-CB750-CB750K-CB750F-1969-1978/172403613700?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Was not sure if I would be hit with import charge but luckily not as I seem to recall there is a concession up to £15 ?

May be useful to anyone needing one .

I decided to go for a new repro loom from DS, so thought would be good to replace this bit as well.

I have also ordered the combined regulator rectifier from Amazon at c £15 to give a try.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075MB7PRS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I do have some old original units but at that price worth a try.

CB750 / CB750F1 Brake caliper binding with new pads
« on: May 12, 2018, 11:04:53 AM »
I have a CB750 F1 restored to rolling frame stage , my third F1 restoration, but slowing down a bit as has been in progress for a while  ::)

Decided I should do something with it and has been on my bike lift for too long.

Fitted a restored front caliper new lines and DS repro, piston, MC and pads, but it binds with adjuster slack and arm moves freely.

Has anyone else encounted problem?

Will have to sand down the pads if no other option, but without removing piston which I think is the culprit, can't see any other option.

CB750 / Beware non original CB750 side panel grommets
« on: May 12, 2018, 10:56:32 AM »
I found this issue and wanted to warn others.

I managed to fit one non standard grommets when restoring my K8.

I was trying to remove the side panel and other two lugs came out but one resisted all attempts inc use of WD40.

I applied a bit of leverage but panel cracked >:(

My own fault but annoying with a pristine painted panel.

I did manage to remove using a hot air gun to warm grommet as it had gone very hard.

Should have done this first.

I have replaced grommet with a new Honda item.

Decided to have a bit of a clear out and the K8 and C90 are first to go.

I have a CB750 F1 restored to rolling frame, ideal if someone has a good engine.

Just got fresh MOTs on both.

I have got quite a few 400/4 bits as well and will try to get a list and photos together

CB750 / CB750 F1 Fork Length
« on: April 15, 2016, 04:31:52 PM »
Looking at my forks on my latest F1 restoration I see they are lightly pitted.

Philpotts will rechrome and grind for £175 all in but I wanted to make sure I have the correct stanchions.

The ones that came were in bits and measure approx 578 mm long.

I see that the DS ones are £94 inc vat each for repro.

Does anyone have the factory spec for length or experience of the repro ones?

Project Board / CB750F1 78 Project
« on: June 27, 2015, 11:26:10 AM »
The cafe project is not fully finished, but I am thinking about the next one :-[

I bought this in May 2014 along with another F1

Lots of bits missing, plus I used the engine to rebuild and put in my first,  stock F1.

However, thanks to Pete on here I have a dismantled engine to rebuild for this one.

Cost is a major consideration but I have bought quite a few of the parts, thanks Bryan for carbs but have just spent £500 at DSS and Cruisin image  ::)

I do like the cafe style and I am thinking of a more ally theme, but also like the idea of a Bugati Blue.

Alloy rims would be nice.

I was a bit ahead of myself with zinc plating, as I already had quite a few bits done for last project using bits from a spare engine and have bought various job lots of bits since which I need to go through.

I am also wondering if this will be my last SOHC project, as I have run out of space  :-[

Thanks
