CB750 / DSS Price reductions Mudguard and Generator covers
« on: April 19, 2015, 12:16:21 PM »
Noticed price for genuine later front mudguard dropped to £125 plus vat, so decided to buy one.

Replica is £95

https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CB750F1-%28Single-overhead-cam%29/part_7027/

Also generator cover reduced to £72 plus vat as finish on underside poor.

https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CB750F1-%28Single-overhead-cam%29/part_7036/

"For some time these have been coming from Honda with surface marks on the side and underside to varing degrees, this is believed to be something that has occurred during the lacquering process. We have decided not to return these under a warranty claim,
the fear is that Honda would withdraw any remaining stock and discontinue the part. Therefore we can only supply them in the condition as pictured. "

Everyone of my bikes came with damaged covers, so bought 2 ::)

The finish is not bad and basically is not polished to same level on underside as the top and price about half what it was, so if you are not too fussy, get them whilst available 8)

CB750 / CB750K8 Oil gallery cap and lower crankcase plugs
« on: February 22, 2015, 03:36:20 PM »
These always seem to be chewed up as have quite a shallow hex head.

Thread is 20 x 1.5

Has anyone tried alternatives?

I see there are some sump drain plugs with same thread, allen key fitting seems better, although not original.

Interested in your thoughts  :)

CB750 / K8 rear brake wear indicator pointer

Does anyone know what is correct part number.

CMSNL show item 8 as a brake rod, DSS have same problem.

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750k-750-four-k-1978-usa_model7244/partslist/F++10.html#results

CMSNL have same description on K7.

Original one seems to have run away to start a new life for itself ;)

Misc / Open / Guy Martin Book
« on: January 03, 2015, 09:00:49 PM »
My son bought me this for Xmas and just finished reading and would recommend.

Quite alot of detailed racing info, but his background and motivation is interesting.

I enjoyed his Speed series and loved the short with Merlin engine and the Spitfire build.

I wondered how much the engine would have cost and in book he says paid £35k

The book helps explain the reasons behind his behaviour and found the bit about his inner chimp (rash behaviour) quite interesting.

It comes across as quite  honest, as he readily admits many of his shortcomings.

CB750 / CB750K8 1978 Exhausts 405 Sankei 2025
« on: December 28, 2014, 11:40:36 AM »
I have worked out which pipes go where and how to tell which is which ;)

No 1 Left Upper has SL marked near joint with silencer

No 2 Left Lower has IL mark

No 3 Right Lower has IR mark

No 4 Right Upper has SR mark

The lower pipes have concave section to clear the frame/fixings

I see from parts list that different part numbers are listed for exhausts from frame  2818258, which mine is.

Anyone know what the difference is and compatability with earlier 405 pipes?

Anyone have a spare Left upper with SL mark in very good condition?

Project Board / CB750F1 Bike 2 Project Cafe style Orange and Black
« on: December 12, 2014, 12:02:34 PM »
As mentioned in my previous F1 project post, I bought another 2 dismantled bikes, for spares and hopefully build another bike, or maybe even 2 more  ;D

Here is the bike I am calling No.2 Ebay purchaseno2$_1 by nitram2010, on Flickr

I rebuilt the engine and used as temporary engine on first bike as its engine was quite bad and needs major attention.

In meantime, Pete on here sold me a dismantled engine which I can use on this project.

I am planning on a mild cafe racer style using standard tank, which I have already had painted.

and probably standard seat.

Whilst getting K8 bits powder coated, also got them to paint wheel rims from first bike, that I replaced.

Any views on whether to go with black zinc plated spokes, normal zinc or stainless?

Unfortunately cost is a consideration :-[

Added a new CB750 to my collection  :)

A US import 1978 K8.

Picked up today.

Engine was out, as PO found seized, various bits missing.

Not tried an import before, have NOVA paperwork.

I can hear Davis Silver rubbing his hands :P

Tricks & Tips / Turning without a lathe
« on: November 22, 2014, 01:10:33 PM »
I dont have a lathe and needed to turn down an M6 bolt to replace a broken seat stud.

It is not visible once cover fitted, but I like to play ;D

I am sure many of you will have used a drill mounted in vice with a file to shape, but it works even better if you have a grinding wheel.

Mount the bolt in drill and whilst operating drill and grinding wheel, shape the bolt against the wheel.

This gives a much more even finish.

Drilled out the stud and counter sunk.

I later added a bevel to allow bolt to fit counter sunk.

Will need welding to finish

Tricks & Tips / Flexible brake pipes to order
« on: November 21, 2014, 09:51:15 AM »
Having problems finding OE rear flexible brake pipe on my CB750F1.

Found this co.http://furoreproducts.co.uk/9-brake-hoses

Used the option for black cover on stainless brading to be more discreet.

Ends are in stainless and position can be adjusted to align before pressurised.

Quick delivery and and good price.

Had already sourced front hoses from DS, but otherwise would have used for fronts as well.
