After 40 odd years, the Ignition Key on my bike is getting rather thin and worn and is a little bent. I'm worried it might break and I only have the one. As you know, it works not just the Ignition but the filler flap and the seat lock on my 550F. I'm therefore looking to get at least one, possibly two replacements. I could probably go down to the local Mr Minute Key cutters (If it was open, which I doubt at the moment due to COVID)and get something which would do the job, but I was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction to get new keys that look like the original. There is a guy selling numbered Honda keys on fleabay currently, but of course mine isn't among the numbers he has on offer. I also tried Dave Silvers site, but the number I require isn't listed there either. Its 820 by the way.
Thanks

I've looked everywhere for a number but can't find one - could you tell me where you found it ?
No help to your question :)

Hi Simon
On mine the number is on the key itself, I'm guessing yours isn't?

Thanks Trigger. I've sent a message to the guy in Torbay although he too doesn't have a no. 820 listed.

Just had a look at all my honda keys in that style and the have the Honda wings on one side and TEC on the other, all key numbers are 5 digit.

Thanks for looking mate. If necessary I'll get some blanks and ask a key cutter to copy the one I have. I thought it was a bit strange that mine has a low number considering its a late registered bike for a 550F2 in the UK. Perhaps someone has changed the lockset at some time? but as I mentioned it is the correct key for all the locks, excepting the steering lock of course which is one on those weird little keys that looks like someone has chopped it in half.

SPR I strongly suspect your key number is 318 as that's the way I used to identify them. If the same key fits the ignition you'll also see the key number on the barrel of that as well, IIRC it's stamped on the metal shroud near where it meets the plastic part underneath. If that also has 318 on it then that would confirm it's the right number.
Cheers for that

I have used these in the past for my Yamaha Townmate, fast service.

That looks promising, not original blanks, but at the moment I just want a decent spare key that works in case mine breaks. Thanks Ade.
-
I've ordered one from Keys in the post, I'll report back when it lands, thanks again for the tip Ade.

My pleasure,

Just in case useful, my cb500/4 was claimed to be an Italian import and had a different steering lock with a metal cover held on by a brass stud and I replaced the head stock with a UK one so I could replicate my old bike setup and bought all 3 locks/ignition new, with 2 new keys.
After seeing your post I came across the eBay ad in the attached pic which seems to come from Italy. So that might explain what the steering lock is about, unless the UK 550 was different again. May be of use if that’s what yours is like and has no key.
On the main key front maybe not impossible to get a couple of blanks and have a go!
-
Thats the Neiman lock in the side of the headstock instead of on bottom yoke and is what a lot of later Hondas used. Back then you could not buy keys or get them cut if lost you had to drill out and replace lock

The key arrived today and fits perfectly. Did you get your key number sorted out Simon?
