CB750 / Re: Front Wheel/ Brake binding?
« on: August 17, 2024, 02:45:22 PM »
Also thanks to the OP @ColinHH. I did a test ride this morning and the brakes no longer bind or squeal. The pivot pin was my issue. Front brakes still lack any feel or real punch though!
These are 50years old almost 1st generation disc brakes, good in the day,not as good as modern units,

They should improve after about 1,000miles usage, when the pads bed in

When you ride it ,and you're cruising along, lightly apply the brake, it will help it bed in

This is my oil of choice.  8) It's meant for classic bikes in the first place.
I get mine either from Eurocarparts, the 10-40 semi synthetic TQ brand
Or from the VMCC club,
Specially made for the bike

I recently replaced the clutch plates, fibre only,

After that, the clutch worked well,

But after 500 miles or so, the plates seem to bed in,had to adjust the lifter etc,

I assume the plates became smoother,

I also noticed as the clutch got used, the sticking got slightly more apparent,

So the better the surface, the more likely to stick

This is normally caused by the moving pad not retracting,

Can be caused by it being a tight fit in the caliper, or,as well the piston seal is old, gone hard so not pulling the piston back,

Have you replaced the seal?

Most of the sohc bikes suffer the same,

The clutch is pressed together by the springs, and the plates just stick,

No rust,

I suggest before the ride, kick it over with the clutch pulled in till they free up,

Or,ride it more often,

Don't worry, just learn how to deal with it

I seem to remember someone used the little pots of model paint,

Was it Humbrol?

What's the finish like on the rims and were they straight when you got them?
Yes, and chromed brass nipples,

But, Stainless is not quite as shiny as chrome,

To me hardly noticeable

Good quality

Can take several weeks lead time ,

They are my preferred supplier

Project Board / Re: Choosing a colour for a paint job
« on: August 03, 2024, 03:29:02 PM »
Soon I'll hopefully be arranging a respray on my tatty tank and side covers, I'd originally decided in my head on a grey/graphite with a greeny gold metallic if that makes sense but I can't find what I've got in my minds eye.  More recently I wondered if I should go a bit brighter with more of a full on green, how does everyone else chose a colour when respraying?  Will paint shops be able help me with colour swatches, I've only ever had colour matching done before so just left them to it.
Contact Julie,

I am 99% certain she can supply bushes

Ooops

As for colour, find a picture of an object, or vehicle they can source a paint code
