Lazarus continues to frustrate me and resist his rebirth.started running on 3 cyls, and after swapping plugs etc with no effect I decided it must be a blockage in no 2 carb. So carbs off again and pilot jet had a blockage, then after cleaning carbs back on. Now running on two cyls! Turns out the low tension wire has broken off the coil. A member of our fine forum Simon has offered to do the Ash fix on some spare coils for me so hope to be back running soon.

had a chance to try a ride, only about 10 miles but a big improvement on before. the big flat spot is much reduced since changing the needle clip position and the clutch also feels better. A weird thing happens though when i open the throttle to accelerate It sometimes snatches as if i had momentarily pulled the clutch in, strange, and carbs still need setting better as get a hanging idle sometimes. At least I had an enjoyable ride with a reasonable chance of getting home with no unplanned stops!

All the best mate, us blokes find it hard to share these feelings, sometimes it's easier on a forum like this. Take care mate.

Good work Ted, I will be doing the same job soon. I also like the look of those alloy rims as they remi d me of my original 500 in 1975.

when I stripped Lazarus it had Taper rollers fitted and they are really difficult to remove as they are the same diameter as the headstock tube so no lip to get a drift on to bash it out. In the end my mate who has welding gear ran a bead of weld around it and it just dropped out. I bought some of the caged ball type but was not happy with the quality so chucked them in the bit and went for original races and generic ball bearings.

Many of you have followed my journey with my 500 four named Lazarus. He is now roadworthy and undergoing final fettling and still resisting but gradually getting there. Was just thinking I would have not got here without the help of this forum, if only for the encouragement and banter! Lots of you have contributed spares and advice over the last 2 years, Nurse Julie and Graham with parts and machining work, Bryan who supplied stuff at low cost to help the budget, and many others with bits along the way. A big thanks also to Oddjob (Ken), no longer a member here but donated lots of engine parts to the cause, a star! So a big big thanks to you all from me and Lazarus, have a great day. regards, Mick

had a little time today as Luna the dog is recovering well from her operation and can be left unsupervised for a while. I decided to replace the clutch plates with new EBC items and also changed the springs for some H/D ones I had. Snag is I thought I had a spare gasket but that is a 550 and is slightly different. the old one would probably go again but dont want to do the job again. I have had the carbs apart and put the needle clip in the centre groove and made sure things were clean in there, once the clutch is back together will try it out and report back.

Personally I would remove the shock bushes and renew them. Would also replace head bearings with standard races as many have had trouble with fitment of taper rollers.

I have dealt with peter Holland via face book and found him to be very good with honest descriptions and reliable service.

Having similar issues with Lazarus at the moment so have moved the needle to middle groove, haven't tried it out yet as our dog has had an operation so looking after her is taking priority over bikes!

I never have much luck sawing the old bushes so made a simple tool. A thick washer the diameter of the hole in the swing arm but too big for Bush. File 2 flats on washer to allow it to pass through Bush then drop through to other side and drive Bush out with long drift. Easy! Also recommend bushes sold by Julie.
