CB500/550 / Re: Honda CB550k3 Bearing Shells

Could I just get more green to go with the new ones that I got from DS or bite the bullet on the postal charge and get the brown ones from cmsnl?

Are the green ones a tighter or looser fit?

Black shells seem very hard to track down.

Got the graphogen to hand.

Hi
I am looking for brown coded crank bearing shells. I need 6 halves altogether. DS sell the green but not brown, CMSNL sell brown but at a high postage charge.
Is there anywhere local (UK) that have them?
Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

CB500/550 / Re: CB 550K3 Cap Head or Not Cap Head

Thanks for the input. Gonna let this run for a while and weigh it all up. Must confess leaning towards the cap heads atm as it was so common in the day and a lot easier to work on but then argh decisions! Prices seem to be about the same give or take a few bob.

Dilemma time. replace all the old nasty rusty chewed up engine casing screws with original like for like or nice shiny stainless cap head ones?
When I used to own Hondas in the "Good ol' days - sigh" we all used to rip out the old screws and put nice shiny cap heads in, if I remember, cadmium plated?
Part of me is thinking that it should be as near original as possible but I am not looking to win prizes, just put an oldie back onto the road and ride it.
Mind you, I did buy some of those nice 4 into 4s that DS sell so maybe more like original is the way to go?
Thoughts and opinions welcome.
PS: I thought my wife's horses were money pits......

CB500/550 / DSS Cheap Rims vs DID

Hi guys
Any thoughts on using the cheaper rims from David Silver as opposed to the Did ones. www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CB550K3/part_192947/
Anyone bought them?
I know the purists will go for original but the price takes some beating.

CB500/550 / CB 550K3 Fork Shrouds
« on: August 04, 2014, 09:22:33 PM »
Hi, anybody know of a source for the fork shrouds  for a 1977 CB550K3?
I have sourced some for another version as a start but they are not for the K3 as they have reflectors where the indicators would have gone and extra holes where the indicators would have fitted.
Just being picky but detail makes all the difference.
Thanks for looking, David

Hi, David here from Cumbria west coast.
Just a quick hello to all and a quick bio.
Have had a number of bikes over the years (15 or 16) but only have the 2 atm. Main bike is a BMW R100RT and my latest winter project is an imported CB550K3. I owned one of these in the early 80's which I regretted selling the moment I handed the keys over to the new owner. Wish I had hung onto it if only because the last part of the number plate was 550K - talk about gutted!
Bike is in fairly fine fettle - started up first push of the button despite having stood for a long time. Will be stripping it down and slowly rebuilding when the nights start drawing in. In the meantime, drawing up a wish list of much needed parts - top of the list those 4 exhaust pipes though they seem to cost more than the bike! Will probably be asking lots of daft questions and asking for advice.
Anyway, look forward to chatting with you all.
David
