Title: alternative reg/rec
Post by: flc on February 10, 2011, 01:08:18 PM
As i am working my way through my carb woes, i spotted that a phase wire had fell off the rectifier again. there is not enough to solder too.
is there a combined (more modern) unit that would be suitable i was told cb 900 ones will work.
i came across this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220733237047&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220733237047&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en)
would it be suitable?
any help much appreciated.
Flc.

I don't know about the combined unit but I've got a rectifier that was listed on ebay for DIY wind turbines. I can't guarantee that it will work though as I never got around to testing it, from memory I think it's the same as item 250728271145 but it cost less.

This is a bit of a marathon, but you might pick up some tips as to what would work from here:

Don't know for sure but dont think so, you need a combined unit from a bike that had a "fed" rotor (usualy via brushes) like the 750/900 DOHC or the CB 650. I do have the diagram to convert somewhere.

It MIGHT be possible to use some of the other ones that "Shunt" excess charge to earth, usually via a zener, BUT that means the field coil will be subject to full power all the time which it was never designed to be so failure MIGHT occur

Try these people...http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/rr24-regulator-rectifier-604-0.html (http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/rr24-regulator-rectifier-604-0.html)

I also have a genuine Honda rectifier part, brand new /never been used, but with the price of the part from Electrex being much cheaper than my part, there's no competition.

I can test mechanical regulators for people as I have the required equipment.

There's a bit missing Bryan but it's understandable. Where did it come from?

Flc: I have a DOHC Manual if you want any wiring diagrams.

I just fitted the reg/rec,
on the atachment bryanj kindly posted to me, the bit thats missing had me stumped.
I first thought the green was earth on trying the bike i got 15v at tickover rising to near on 20v (not sensing voltage??).
so i wired it to the existing green from the old regulator, and now it rises from high 12's at tick over to 15v at 3000rpm and never gets any higher. And a lovely bright headlight.
I must admit i was rushing when i fitted it earlier as i was due to start work (ended up using the car!!)
Looking forward to trying it tomorrow
more later Flc.
