Hello having f****d up my brake callipers i am looking to replace them with a decent pair ( i am not on a rush but..)
I'll be browsing the net to see if a pair comes up at a decent price.
My bike is a K2 are other model suitable?
Does this forum have a part swap or sale session?
Regards

Why are they Fu..ed up ? These are not a easy part to find second hand in good condition. DSS do repro replacements.

This f****d up.

My last resort will be DSS, I guess I have plenty of time before I get to the brakes.
Thanks

I have studied the photos at length and I concur , they are f*cked, DS repro parts is a good bet cos you know they will work perfectly, costs more than second hand but it's worth it to save hassle, if you do end up getting second hand ones and need to remove the Pistons its best to blow them out (with air not dynamite).

Tom
It seems not allowed here your links thankyou go to BWScreen
Cheers anyway

Bloody hell that's one hell of a mess. Had a friend try to drill out a broken spark plug out of a 400/4 head and what a mess he made. But did restore the head to good again. Moral of the story if you cannot do it leave it alone
-
Unfortunately there is no reset button in real life. It's a very costly lesson.

I have a tool to get those out ;) Don't bin them i will take them as a little experiment.
-
Ive seen a video on ytube about a technique with a grease gun.
Unfortunately too late.
Happy to pass them to you if you need.
-
Not too late for grease gun but those drilled holes worry me
-
Erm... There is a hole in the middle of one of them...

Well, OTOH, if the pistons are corroded in that bad even if you dropped them in diesel for a week and grease-gunned them out, would the surfaces not be so bad they were scrap anyway? Just asking...

You never know until you get the pistons out ;)

Do K1 callipers fit k2?

Same Caliper. I never received those damaged ones through the post.

Bloody hell that's one hell of a mess
;) yes i can agree on both counts
1 they are f***ed
2 the grease gun works
don't under estimate the power of grease guys, ive seen that stuff keep the tracks pumped up on 300 ton diggers

These calipers are on the way to you Trigger.
I have just bought a new (used) one
It seems to be in good condition. I'll have to extract the pads somehow.

That caliper will still need a full strip with a new piston and seal.
I look forwards to a play with those. I recon that i can alloy wield them up and a bit of machining.
-
Are the spring on the callipers all the same, can they be replaced with other type.
Although they are relatively cheap, with Vat and p&p still over £10 for 2 springs...

Any ideas on how to get the bolts out of this calliper?
Thanks
El__burro
-
Gentle heat and a well fitting allen key, if all else fails you can drill the heads off with a drill that just fits in the hole then etract the left over bits with vise grips
-
Or weld an old Allen key to the bolts
-
Some heath and a perfect fit allen key did the job. Thanks a lot Bryanj.

if your stuck, don't use the spring,it was a common mod in the '70's,in case your worried,I haven't fitted/used those springs since then
-
So, your suggestion is don't use them. Will it effect the functionality?
Thanks

yes,no problems,still use the adjusting screws,from about 1978 till 2012 I used without spring,and single disc,since then,I have
twin discs,again no springs,they work a treat
-
aah, the adjusting screw... is that anything common to find?
thanks

have a look at this pic,it should show it

I've always found connecting the calipers to a master cylinder and pumping does the trick. Isnt this the same caliper?

Interesting technique however! :o
-
that was sorted with a grease gun.
if only id find out before screwing the first 2 callipers.
thanks ginger_jim, your technique would have also worked greatly.
P.S. is it necessary replacing the rubber washer in the piston slot?

do you mean the seal ? it is a square section rubber ring.they used to cost about £3,and fitting a new one
will improve piston retraction and seal ,well worth doing

I always use an old master cylinder and hose to pump them out, saves cleaning the grease out afterwards. Also its easy for a newb to damage the threads as they aren't really compatible and easy stripped.

If you mean the piston seal think of it this way---You only have one neck and if that fails you have no brake
