Fatal, I'm sure somebody will take some photos of the day at Aintree and post them, looks like the F's are popular in the NW  8) Good luck with the work on the bike are you doing a Den type restoration?

Not sure what you mean by 'Den type restoration'  ???

Fatal, ground up job like Den or a rolling restoration, back to original specs or custom build, had the bike long or just got it, I suppose was the question but I hate typing.  ;)

Dave

I see what you mean now. I was given the bike by a friend last October, it had been partially dismantled several years ago due to the chain snapping and knackering the engine, it was very tatty and yellow. He just wanted rid to create some space in his garage. I didn't paticularly want an F1, I was looking for a K6 as I'd previously owned two many years ago. I remember my mate buying this bike in 1977, he even christened it Beryl!
I've had the frame, swing arm and centre stand powder coated, sourced and completed a partial rebuild to another engine, I have all the parts I need it's just time and the motiavation. Being semi-retired you'd think I'd have it done by now, but it'll be next spring hopefully. I'm not going for a concourse job, just a good quality near original look, and in the red paint scheme.

Could you use it on something like the cb750

I don't see why not. The RAM mount to fit the unit to the handlebars is simple to use, it's just a question of connecting the power wire to your battery, the TomTom unit does have it's own independent power source but will only last for a few hours, so you need to connect it to the bikes power supply. The TTR 2 kit that I have comes with everything you need, I just paid a few extra quid for the car adapter mount and power lead. The TTR 2 with european mapping is quite expensive, but IMHO certainly worth it.
I'm no electrician so I can't advise on the connecting to your bikes battery. When I bought my Tiger 1050 the dealer fitted a special loom into the Triumphs loom. On my GS1150 I just connected the power cable straight to the battery, no fuses etc; seems to be working just fine. I find it a very useful piece of kit, as usually when I go touring with my pals for some reason I always end up doing most of the leading and navigation (probably coz I'm the only one daft enough to admit being able to read a map  ;D ) It's also good for being able to answer my mobile why riding, the Scala headset that comes with the kit is very good.

Thanks Spitfire, They're near enough to where I live. Have you any photos (links to ) of your F1 restoration ? It would seem you have done a very thorough job looking at that chrome on the work bench. I started my F1 last October but it's dragging along, I'm almost ready to put the engine back into the frame, once thats done I'm pretty sure things will speed up a bit.

Thanks for the info chaps. I won't be able to make Aintree due to other committments. I used to live there many years ago, even Marshalled at the bike meetings back in 1975 and '76, the heyday of my mis-spent youth.  ;D

I use TooTom Rider 2 on my BMW GS1150 and Tiger1050, both are wired up for it, I find it invaluble at times, great to use with the scala headset and bluetooth. It's also got the car conversion so as I drive for a living its great, reduces stress, and stops you messing about with maps on the road. Just don't throw away your maps as you'll still need them for reference and ploting routes.  ;)

Hi guys, I notice the black 750 - 4 has the high american style handlebars, Who's bike is it? The reason I ask is that I'm currently restoring a 1976 F1, and would prefer the higher bars, but nowhwere seems to stock them. I asked at dave silvers but no joy, any ideas? I have seen some Kawasaki Z1 bars at Z power but I would have to drill and cut them to take the wiring, anyone know of some decent honda pre drilled ones? By the the way , I'm in St Helens, not a million miles away from Southport, bit of a pi**er about them stopping the bikes at the cafe.  :-\

has anyone used the tapered roller bearings to replace the standard loose bearings and cups?
 Were they easy to fit?
Any noticeable improvement in handling?

CB750 / New kid on the block

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site. I've just been given a 1975 CB750F1 by a mate who works overseas and hasn't the time to sort it. It has been stood in his damp garage for the last 9 years or so as the chain snapped and cracked the crankcase (happened to my K6 back in1978).
I have previously owned two K6's and an F2, albeit about 20years ago. I currently ride a BMW R1150GS and a Harley 1200 Sportster. I have taken this F1 on as a restoration project, with a view to riding it for a few years. I have done several BMW restorations, and a BSA, but this is my first Honda. I intend to get the bike within as near original spec as reasonably possible, but concours is not for me. I like to use stainless steel fasteners, goodrich type hose, and decent aftermarket shocks.
I am aware that David Silver Spares is a good source for parts as is the Dutch company CMS, can anyone reccommend any others in the UK, and are there any bike breakers about who specialise in old Hondas?
What would be a fair price be for a replacement engine as I'm not certain a rebuild is a practical proposition on this bike?
