I have the shop manual so I can have a look in there to confuse myself.

SOHC Singles & Twins / CB360 Wiring question
« on: Today at 08:48:19 PM »
I’ve started to connect things back up on my 360 and I thought that I had taken plenty of notes and pictures but I am a little stumped as I actually didn’t take enough.

In the wire cluster that sits by the fuel tank, I have one spare wire, there doesn’t seem to be anywhere for it to connect?

I also have two spare wires branching off the main harness near the front off the bike.

I’ve looked at what needs to go back on the bike and I can’t see what these wires would be for, could they be spares and not used? I find it strange that I didn’t get a picture or note it down somewhere but this is my first ever attempt and I have no experience so could easily have missed it, any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve had a good look at the pics that I did take and it does look as though the two wires from the harness could be unused, I can just see one poking through that could be it and it does look a bit weathered, as if it maybe wasn’t connected and covered?

Maybe I didn’t notice the one in the cluster if I started unplugging wires it could have gone unnoticed?

It’s a 1974 with front drum brake if that makes any difference.

Any thoughts???

I figured it was time to bite the bullet and see what carburettors are all about!! I have stripped them ready for cleaning and was feeling quite pleased with myself when I saw a small spring that I hadn’t accounted for, it’s not from the internals for sure, I’m confident it is from the hardware on the outside somewhere and I’m sure I can figure that out.

What really stumped me was the diaphragms that I ordered from NRP, I realise that I have no idea how to change them, can they be done without cutting the plastic holding rings, I’m sure they aren’t called plastic holding rings but hopefully you know what I mean!!

I made an executive decision this week, instead of spending all summer working on the bike to make it look better, I am going to put it back together and get it running safely this season hopefully. Then come autumn, I can get back in the shed with it and spend the dark nights and wet weekends pulling bits off and fettling. It will look a bit odd, some bits have been refreshed and some not.

That’s the plan anyway, I just hope I can get it back together and running again! So the engine has gone back in the frame tonight. The engine was a runner and I have given it a clean up, lapped the valves and replaced the dodgy rocker arms. All new bushes and bearings on the frame and wheels and new brakes, so I’m hopeful it should run and be safe. Then I get to have something to do throughout the coming winter. With a bit of luck it will work out and not bite me in the backside.

Do you mean this retainer and tool Ted?

If so, I recently bought the tool and an aftermarket retainer from a different supplier and the tool didn’t fit correctly, as you can see. When I contacted them, they checked their stock and found the new batch of retainers didn’t fit the tool but the original Honda retainers did. They sent me a genuine Honda one as a replacement which was fine. I wonder if DSS has the same issue?

Sorted the brakes on both wheels, stripped, cleaned, new shoes etc and put them back on the bike so it’s a bit easier to handle. I’ll give them a clean up when they come back off for new tyres further down the line. Next thing is to get the wiring harness back in the place with correct routing, it’s just draped on the bike at the moment.

Are those handlebars original fitting they look somewhat US style ones?
The bike is a US import.

Thanks Ted, I will do that before it goes back on.

I’ve put a few things back on the frame, the swinging arm with new bushes and lower shock bushes, centre stand, handlebars, top and bottom yokes with new tapered roller bearings and rebuilt front forks.

The wiring harness has been cleaned in the ultrasonic and I’ll attempt to fit that next, once it has dried. After that I plan to replace the wheel bearings and brake shoes, front and back then get the wheels back on to make it easier to move around again.

I’ve just checked on the laptop and I can see my sent messages there but not on tapatalk on the iPhone?

Not the end of the world but it does show sent messages on other forums for some reason?

12
There is a checkbox that says “save sent messages”

Maybe you need to do that on a PC.

I do remember trying to make it default to “yes” but that wasn’t an option.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks Steve, I will take a look later.

That’s what I thought it would be but when I select sent messages it is blank?

It’s only here, as I use tapatalk elsewhere, maybe I need to do something from a laptop, a setting or something? I’ll have to keep fiddling about.

14
Ahhhh, thank you. It’s not hard for me to be baffled, much appreciated.

Not sure if anyone really uses tapatalk but I’m usually on my phone so it’s my usual way to access, any idea if there’s a way to see them using that?

What’s the answer, I can’t see mine either, only received messages?
