Title: Primary drive chain guides question.
Post by: McCabe-Thiele (Ted) on March 23, 2021, 03:38:44 PM
My primary chain guides certainly look original one has small lines/marks on it (bottom guide) the other is unmarked. Do I replace them anyway due to age hardening?

No Ted, use them again. Once you have fitted the new Hyvo, the chain literally only just kisses the bottom guide, they are there to protect the cases more than anything.

If they don't have much wear you can use again. Min thickness is 5mm iirc.
I'm sure the 2 in your spare engine are good to use.

Thanks for the replies - replacements are pricey for what they are. The chain was well worn so even in that state it had clearly barely touched the guide. I'm looking to repair the horseshoe guide basically it appears to be carboned up with burnt oil.
