Misc / Open / Anyone near Gorebridge Midlothian?
« on: November 20, 2009, 09:07:26 AM »
There's a 1979 CB900 that I'm interested in - too far to go and I hate buying blind.

Anyone up there who could do me a favour and go look at it for me?

Steve (CB900-less at the moment)

There's a guy on sohc4.net who makes phenolic pistons (he turns them down from automotive parts). They come highly recommended by our US cousins.

There are a couple of very good independants around here (Reading) who will work on these old bikes (they actually prefer it)

Let me know if you are still looking.

CB500/550 / Re: CB650 coils

There's a FAQ on sohc4.net that shows how to open up the coils and repair them with new leads.

Also, some on there have successfully used CB750/900 DOHC coils that have detachable leads (but need a bit of metalwork/bracketry to fit)

Hello mate!

Whereabouts in NW Kent? Put your location in your Profile and it will be displayed below your avatar - thus saving all the "where are you?" questions. We have members from Bromley to Maidstone - I'm down there a fair amount too as my kids live in Greenwich and Lewisham and my riding buddy in Canterbury.

Hi James.
As you're in the USA, register with www.sohc4.net and ask them the same question. There will be many more members in your neck of the woods - this site is mostly UK-based. (We still want to hear from you though!)

OK - I'm off down the pub for the monthly Triumph do so I'll give it to the first XL Trumpy guy who wants it!

Misc / Open / Classic Bike T-Shirt (XL) at cost of postage to first bidder!
« on: November 08, 2009, 06:56:04 PM »
My CB900FZ featured in the November 2009 issue of Classic Bike magazine (they loved it!)

In recompense (for the tank of fuel they used - and 250 miles on the clock) they sent me a free t-shirt. Orange with the "Ascent of Man" theme.

It's size XL - which is safe for them seeing as they didn't know my size (they could have asked...)

So if you want it, drop me a PM and you can have it for the postage.

Steve

EDIT:

Just noticed (?) that the back of the t-shirt has the Classic Bike logo with the line "Flat out on old knockers"

MrsD not amused...

The '69 looked like this - so maybe not a 175...

My K plate CB175 certainly had a balance pipe.
What about the model that preceded it?

Love to Bryan - to print up properly they need to be pretty big, 500k as a minimum.

Thinking of doing one of these.

I did one a couple of years ago with the bikes on www.nirvana-motorcycles.com and seeing how our US cousins have singularly failed to get their "coffee table book" project off the ground, I think our more cohesive group might stand a chance.

So I need 12 hi-res pictures of your bikes (SOHC4 only please). Can be "before/after" if you like and I'll split pages.

I'll start with Eamon's blue 1970 CB750K0 and 1979 CB550F2

I could toss in the Dresda and the Seeley if short but want to see what you've got first!

They sound much better when there's nothing left inside!

You will (probably) never see new ones again, so if you want the 4-4 look, you'll have to live with what you've got.

Loonymoon fitted some rather nice megas onto her 4-4 headers on her 350...  ;)

That's a 550 tank Drew.

Here's a 400/4 tank (for comparison)
