Title: 550f master cylinder
Post by: DomP on April 20, 2024, 09:18:38 AM
While replacing the standard bars with clip ons I've found as i suspected that the master cylinder gets on the way, can anyone recommend a modern replacement that may fir and have the same piston bore? Lots of cheap gsxr and ninja ones on Ebay

The reservoir and banjo fitting fouls the clip on clamp

Dom, try a 1995 CBR600 like this they work readily  available second hand then just a rebuild kit and a nanny

Thanks Roo but that will still hit my clip ons, I need a radial mc ideally I think 5/8" or 14mm

Actually thinking about it a remote reservoir will work so maybe an sv650 mc?  I'll put some photos on my build thread Roo

Not sure what you're looking for

On my race Honda 350 K4 I put an AP Lokheed adjustable one on, it matched the AP caliper. Got to the classic TT and everyone appeared to be using the David Silver (other suppliers are available ) replica ones, which cost less than the rebuild kit for my AP one!

I also have the DS  replica one on my Yamaha TZ race/road bike, it works well

Plus, I'll be fitting one on my Honda CB500 K2 RC181 replica

If its realy that much of an angle use one from a bmw airhead where the master is under the tank and operated by cable from the lever

On a single disc setup is going to a 5/8" mc going to be much of a problem?  That gives me lots of radial options

What's the original mc bore diameter on the 500 ? Is it 14mm ?

With that, 5/8 will give a hydraulic loss (disadvantage) but likely the mechanical on radial will be the opposite direction.

It shouldn't be too much in the way of overall effect, but only really thorough way is to try one.

If lever pivot is "bearing-ed" or very competent bush, and caliper is meticulously on target for free movement, seal condition etc, then highly probable it'll work well.

You'll not be far out of bed in reality, more a preference in how you like them to feel and ideal potency is going to be up for debate.

Thanks, I think you are that only trying it will answer my question but it shouldn't be a million miles out

I'm wondering if there might just be enough clearance as the reservoir tapers off doesn't it?  Are they 1/2" Roo

Do you want me to bob them over to you Dom, then you can shuffle them about to see? Don’t mind mate. CBR’s have clip ons and they fit a treat so I think it’ll fit ok but I don’t mind sending some over to you mate………

How many have you got😄  one good one will do!  Have they got brake switches, it would be good to do away with the connector on the lower triple and run a continuous line.  I'll pm you mate.
