I've ben thinking of adding one of these Tappet adjusters to my tool kit, has anyone got experience to share, ie are they worth buying? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Tappet-Adjust-Tool-for-CB350F-CB400F-400-4-350-400-SOHC-Four-1970s-HWT026/251957752640?hash=item3aa9da3340:g:YowAAOxyOMdS-RBK:rk:35:pf:0

Very similar to genuine Honda workshop tool kit.

That will do the job a treat George.

Personally I feel a good ring spanner and stubby screw driver is a good as those in the right hands.
-
Ahh but it isnt a screwdriver on that one its a slot!
-
If Julie approves so do I! ...bought one! ;D

I got my Honda tools from the same supplier and they are all fine.
-
That is bloody expensive! The OEM tool is PN 07708 0030400 and is about £4 ;)
-
...now you tell me! EDIT: I googled the number and got this https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/07708-0030400?gclid=EAIaIQobChMItrLEpuud3wIVTLTtCh0TOw3aEAAYASAAEgKR0vD_BwE

Bought a "genuine" Honda tappet adjuster many years ago.
No spanner part to loosen/tighten the locknut, just a square drive to suit the tappet with a small plastic handwheel. Used with a cranked 8mm ring spanner this seems to work ok.
I always have to back off the adjustment a small amount ( from .002") when tightening the locknut as the set gap closes slightly despite resisting the torque with the adjuster tool.
I guess the fancy version works like the old SPQR tappet tool to make life easier?

I bought the DS tool around five years ago and, quite honestly, rarely if ever use it. The tool itself is just too bulky to fit easily within the access hole. I still prefer to use a screwdriver and cranked ring spanner!
-
Hmm... I've never seen the adjusters... so one tool mentioned here is slotted, like the head of a screw? And the other is a screwdriver? They can't both work, can they? And the tool in the DS photo shows neither? I guess more research is needed... :-\

I use one of these spot on ;D

How do members get so confused ! The 400 has the tappets and the tool that i listed is used :o Some other SOHC's have a different tappet that all is required is a flat screwdriver ;)
-
That's the very one.

I've always used a key that I believe was for winding a clock, works a treat.
Cheers

I'm alarmed that I've spent so much money now! :o

Whilst most locking nuts are 10mm there are at least 3 tipes of adjuster top
1 screwdriver slot
2 small square
3 reverse screwdriver slot
