Title: historic not QUITE well yes
Post by: billy192 on December 20, 2016, 01:43:38 PM
OK so I have a 1976 K6 CB750 as some know. as it was first registered on 29/09/1976 i went to change the taxation class to historic and the PO did not have any idea how to do it, although I have done my other 4 bike at the same PO. they said I had to ring the dreaded DVLA. well I did. and the records show that my bike was indeed registered on the 29/09/1976 BUT the date of manufacture according to there records was 22/01/1977, i did ask as to how it could be registered before being made and she said it must have been a typo during first reg but she could not change the Jan date. furthermore I need to get a letter from Honda (headed paper) confirming the exact date of manufacture then and only then can i change to historic (providing 40 years have passed) or wait until Jan 2018

so how do i get the letter and who do i have to pay?

chassis number CB750 2576681
Engine number CB750E 2466238

I think this is the link you want:
http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/my-bike/year-of-manufacture.html
I have been down this route - my 400 is a 1977 bike but wasn't registered until 1981 (don't know why) and year of manufacture was also shown as 1981.
I want to be able to get the historic class when it is due so got things changed, and DVLA also issued an age-related registration (now 'S', was ''W').
This assumes it is a UK bike. If not the VJMC have a dating service which can be used for imports: http://www.vjmc.com/dating-service.html

Not sure if I'm missing something here but I thought the vehicle needed to be built before 01 January 1976. DVLA seem to agree on their website.

The 40 year exemption date rolls forward automatically each year on 1 April.

Not sure were Honda get there information from because I have a UK, 750K2 1972 that is registered 02/01/1973. I applied for a age related Honda letter some years ago and it came back as Date of manufacture 01/01/1973. I spoke to Honda and asked, how did they transport bikes back in the early 70's, by Tardis ?

the actual wording is "year of manufacture"

mine was registered in 1974,made in 1973,yours may be 1975 bike, only an age letter will confirm it

It won't happen until April,  forget first of January.  That's the way those DVLA numpties operate.
