CB500/550 / Tank Badge Removal - How?
« on: March 14, 2016, 02:59:26 PM »
I am just going to touch up the white inlay on the Honda tank badges as some letters are worn away.

I'd like to take them off to do this but a bit unsure how to get them off or how they are fixed. Looking at the parts list there seems to be some sort of nut at the back but dont know how you can get at them.

I am reluctant to just start tugging and banging things as in my experience one just ends up making matters worse.

CB500/550 / Air filter retaining Spring and cover
« on: March 10, 2016, 02:11:39 PM »
1) My recently bought bike is missing the spring retaining the air filer and I cant source one from either DS or CMSNL. Is not having it important ie does it serve a technical function ie push the filter against the front seal maybe?

2) I am also a bit confused about covers as I bought the bike as a US import and not only no spring but no covers fitted either. Should there be a cover? I see a cover on the parts list (item8 on pic) but it doesnt look as if it covers the whole air filter like say on a car. So as with spring ? what's it's purpose, functional or cosmetic?

3) there is also a tool tray missing but I am eally not fussed about that I may pick one up on flea bay at some point.

Bottom line does any of these missing bits matter as it's all under the seat anyway

CB500/550 / Exhaust Bracket Positioning Problem
« on: March 07, 2016, 08:47:14 AM »
Just fitting my aftermarket CMSNL pipes and brackets and all not gooing fully to plan. >:( >:(

Not having had original pipes I am not sure of the correct bracket order on the foortrest bracket.

Considering the LHS pipes does the No 1exhaust  bracket go behind the footrest bracket or in front of it? Where does the No 2 bracket go iin relation to the peg , No 1 etc

Hopefully my description makes sense.

Looking frmo the outside I believe the correct order of metal is footrest, pillion bracket, No 1 bracket, No 2 Bracket, ie both exhaust brackets go behind the fottrest bracket.

If anyone has a pic showing the correct order that would be most helpful

« on: March 03, 2016, 01:06:17 PM »
I am with MCE for the trophy and they just quoted me £75 to add the HOnda to my policy for the next 5 months. Carole Nash quoted me £160 !!!! for a new policy.

Think I will just add to my MCE policy for now and shop around again when it's up fpr renewal in September

1971 K0 US Import

Was that a poke at my painting skills ;) ;) Actually Frame had virtually zero rust to start with so I used Hammerite rattle can and actually although clearly not a professional finish was very pleased with the outcome. :) :)

CB500/550 / Alternator cable retainer clip fitting/position
« on: March 01, 2016, 06:43:12 AM »
Anyone got a pic of where the black plastic cable retainer block fits for the alternator cable inside the cover.

It's the plastic block near the neutral indicator wire.
