CB350/400 / Horn not honking
« on: February 29, 2016, 12:58:55 PM »
Power there and all right coninuity through horn button so I have a broken/inoperable horn.

Can it be "freed" or serviced in any way before I dig in to the money chest again?

Something very odd here, the standard spec for bore size for the 500 four is 56-56.01mm with a servicable limit of 56.1mm

Youer measurements indicate 51mm which makes no sense (assuming it is a CB500 four.

Have you measured the bores? This is best way to check but FYI I just rebuilt my 4 engine and the Pistons had no markings except the forward arrow and these were standard size

By the way I have a set of std rings if you need and want to make me a sensible offer

They are NOS rings by the way

CB500/550 / K0 500 Speedometer Gear Box - Fitting correctly
« on: February 22, 2016, 04:10:56 PM »
Is this supposed to be fixed somehow so it cannot rotate.

I have reassembled my front wheel and can't work out if the speedo drive is supposed to have a lug or something to stop it rotating. Right now it will rotate about 20 degress in each direction and seems to hit some kind of stop.

The Honda service manual says
"Make sure that the speedometer gear box is mounted in the proper position."

But it sadly does not say how to achieve this

CB500/550 / Main stand up position conundrum
« on: February 22, 2016, 01:14:21 AM »
Just refitted main stand wheels etc and when in the up position the main stand ends up resting on the rear brake adjust rod rather than the swing arm

Is this correct or have I put something back together wrongly

Should there be a rubber bump stop or something to stop the stand whacking on the swing arm or something

CB500/550 / Re: Fork rebuild question - stuck in spring and damer assembly
« on: February 17, 2016, 04:11:48 PM »
Both sides have the threaed rod so are early ones (not surprising as its a K0) bike). The RHS the whole damper and spring unit just lifted out after unding the bottom allen screw.

The LHS will just not lift out and seems just to be stuck somehow.

I didnt try screwing the bottom screw back in a bit and whacking it up or addng some heat to the outer tube by the way.

As I said the damper seems to be working OK so just renewed the seal and put it back together.

As I said just wanted to be belt and braces that this cant lead to an accident scenario. :o :o :o

Very odd as I cant think how it could get so stuck down there !!

CB500/550 / Fork rebuild question - stuck in spring and damer assembly
« on: February 15, 2016, 10:10:42 AM »
I was stripping and rebuilding my forks over the week end. One went fine but the other one not...

Basically I cuold not pull out the spring and damper assembly even though i undid the screw at the bottom.

The thing seems to be just wedged somehow in the tube but there is no dents or damage to the tube at all.

In the end I just replaced the fork seal and changed the oil and then left it as is and all seems to be working OK,  but I just wondered if anyone else had a similar problem anytime.

CB500/550 / Main and Side stand Springs Refitting - Help
« on: February 15, 2016, 08:50:37 AM »
Anyone any tips for refitting these springs. I think the main I can manage but the  side was a b****** to get off, it has so much tension I could hardly pull it even with a length of wire wrapped around the end to make a pulling loop (which is a trick I have used before on my Trophy)   and heavy gloves  >:( >:(
