DS getting this in to sell. Claims early 3-digit VIN and price to match but no squared off top case that AFAIK went on into the 3000's VIN's

Should be like this :)

Do you think it could have had an engine change Ash?

Possibly Julie ... I did ask the question on his FB site but no reply yet. Seriously devalues it if it has though and not worth what he is asking IMHO. But JamesH is the man on value of these early VINS.

So unusual to see a USA bike with such incredibly high mileage. Maybe this one has been clocked forward, not backwards 🤣🤣🤣🤣
-
David himself just replied to my FB message and said somebody else had already pointed it out. He says he is looking into it.
Agree Julie ...unusual to see a USA bike with that milage and no way would the gearbox bearings have survived those miles so I bet you are correct and the engine has been swopped. I suppose that's one plus about DK .. they always give the frame VIN and engine numbers in their listings.

Can someone explain what this squared off case is as i have never understood it
My bike is a K0 US import with engine no starting 104 but not sure if it is squared off
Pics of squared and later non squared would be really helpful

look further back in this post Paul and there is a pic of my early crankcases VIN less than 10000 ...just !

aha so is it that lump I am looking for that your red arrow points at?
Also my engine no is 1041032 is this a K0 unit, not sure of how the numbering went

Yes Paul Yours is a K0, as the K1 VINS started with a 2. Yours should have round pin multi-connectors and the large block pattern seat, small reflectors on fork ears and shallow grab rail etc. Bryan and Trig will hopefully confirm this to be correct.

Thanks so mine looks all original K0 except for the grab rail which I think is not the shallow one or am I wrong
Talking of round pins anyone know a source of replacement pins, my oil light connection is a bit of a bodge up at the moment
-
Your grab rail looks spot on K0 to me Paul. Round pins are the same as the ones used on the ignition switch connector (brown plastic housing) early 250/350K and CB750. I think
Vintage Connections in the States do them but BigAl on here may know a source in Europe. Think yours should have Japan sticker on side panels but Bryan will know for sure. Lovely looking bike BTW !!

on the two photo's at the top of this thread. Unless it is a really subtle difference that requires a "zoom in" to spot, the crankcases look the same??

Need to zoom yea .... but deffo a subtle difference which means engine probably swapped.
-
Crankcases are 100% wrong for a 3-digit 500 K0. I’ve seen square cases up to about 3200 engine vin..
-
The price has now been reduced dramatically and the words 'all original' have been removed from the advert ......what a shame he is going to earn 2k less for it 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Good thing a unsuspecting buyer didn't jump in feet first.....

so engine number 3646 .. must have just missed the early crankcase style but obviously not the original engine cases for that VIN,
-
Frame no. CB500-1000194 so very early indeed ... shame it doesn't have its original crankcases.
-
Nice low number, if you are into that sort if thing. I'm sure Bryans VIN #36 is still the champion though🏆
-
It will be back!
Frame coated and hug in mates garage, parts being assembled.
Wont be a resto but a rebuild to as near to UK spec as i can do
