If the lenz is seperate I have one for the cost of postage I plan to bin it as I have a complete unit I intend to fit. Just PM me if you are interested - the reflector is less than perfect but probably usable.

I'm going to track down some of my old pictures all now poorish copies reproduced from scanning negatives plus some prints that friends have sent me since we lost 30 years of pre-digital photos from a serious house fire in November 2017. I will post them next week.

If this link & video  still works it will give you some background we moved back into our rebuilt home in July 2018.

I used to be a solder fan for decades but about 30 years ago I discovered the benefits of a purpose made (not cheap) mains cable crimping tool followed more recently by a 6mm HT lead  crimping tool plus a crimping tool for Freesat cables.

I'm a believer now.lol

No it's a small crease at right angles to the chain guard length quite close to the rear end. You can't see it in my poor photo.

Needs a dammed good "planishing" Sir,  prior to rechrome.  :)
With a bit of luck the chrome's might be able to do that - I would probably make it worse. I have previous for such things.

I have used these a few times and been spot on.

Are they the same colors as the original?

This may help.

Thanks Deano that's really helpful for when I rebuild after full strip down. What is the source of the page as neither of the manuals that came with my bike have similar pages ?

As I suspected my loom has not been replaced but definitely it has been taken off and refitted with quite a few errors.

On cars I used to spin the wheels (usually front wheel on RWD) whilst applying the brakes having previously fitted a Wet & Dry paper  pad between disc & pad - usually 180 grit to break the glaze. The wife had the job of applying light pressure so when it ripped it was her fault.  lol

Back in the 1970's when unsold new cars were stored in fields near the ports one manufacturer actually supplied an insert to clean off storage surface rust!

Wire wool is probably easier - I have also found that the sponge type scouring pads are quite good - not White ones they are  too soft but the green ones - they will actually scratch windscreen glass.

That's a beauty! Well done.

That's what I meant to say - my post was at 3.00 am ish with raging Insomnia in full swing so I posted before I thought it through properly.

This morning I am inspired to make my restoration the best I can do but I know it will fall short of this superb project. How I wish I had the skill set to get  close to the standard displayed by James.

Well done James it's got to be close to the Gold Standard - and built from 4 boxes of parts what a brilliant build.

(Not wishing to take anything from others here who have done similar work)

Hi , have you got a picture of the underside of side cover where the electrics are ? My 75 400/4  doesn’t want to close so just need pic to see what’s the right and wrong way to wire up things . Thanks if you can .

Does this help ?

I've reversed my battery so it fits correctly. The earth strap looks as though it fits on the engine mount nut OK. The positive now reaches the starter solenoid was upside down after some loosening of terminals it's now as it should be. When I come to replace the wiring loom I have no faith in the existing routing so will be on the look out for photos of how it should be routed. Workshop manuals are a very limited sources of such information. Some serious searching is ahead of me - old posts here etc. I guess there isn't a market for rebuild manuals. I take my hat off for those that build a bike from a boxes of parts.
