CB500/550 / Rocker shafts
« on: May 30, 2019, 10:30:56 AM »
Hi,
I need to get the rockers out as I want the cover blasting.
At the outer ends I see a large screwdriver slot and the shaft is threaded 6mm.
What is the method used to remove the rocker shafts.
Looks like, to me, that they can be pulled out using the threaded portion of the shaft???
All info greatly appreciated.
Cheers  Bill W.

Hi All,

Just taken the screw and bolt out of the speedo take off point on the rocker cover. You've guessed, its broken and has been for some time. Does anyone have the part Number and a possible source to get one from?  TIA Bill W.

CB350/400 / Trigger & Nurse Julie
« on: May 22, 2019, 09:23:07 PM »
Hi,
I went with my brother Ross to see Graham and Julie today as my brother needed some work doing on the head and barrels of his CB400.

It is amazing how much information you can pick up by watching, listening ant talking to two people who have been into motorbikes as long as they have

Graham is, in my opinion, the most fastidious of engineers I have known. The customer always come first, but not at the cost of a perfect build.

My brother knows that when he gets his barrels and head back they will be spot on. The price and timescale are as you would expect for that kind of quality engineering

Both Graham and Julie are source of knowledge of the early Honda's. Whilst Graham's skills lie in the engineering side of things, Julie runs him a close second and makes a far superior cuppa. In fairness I haven't tasted one of Graham's cuppa's, he was too busy talking Honda.

Looking forward to meeting you both again, along with the dogs, when we pick up the CB400 parts.
Thanks again for the hospitality today.  Bill W.

CB350/400 / Rotor removal tool
« on: May 10, 2019, 07:29:17 AM »
Hi,
I'm trying to find the correct size of thread for a 77 CB400 rotor puller. Apparently the 16mm for the CB550 doesn't fit. Thanks Bill W.

CB500/550 / HEAD STUDS
« on: May 02, 2019, 01:21:40 PM »
Hi,

I have 2 broken studs in a 550 block.

So far they have resisted the efforts of heat and brute force in an effort to remove them.

I realise no one has a fool proof method to remove them, but rather than cut them flush and drill them out,

I will try any way to get them out.

Thanks

Bill W.

CB500/550 / CB550F2/3
« on: December 19, 2018, 10:36:50 PM »
Hi, Could someone give me the model designation of this frame Number, is it F2 orF3?

The DVLA gives the T reg number as manufactured 1979 and First Registered May 1979.

I thought the CB550's stopped being made in 1978??

I read the frame No as either CB550F 2411276 or CB550F 2111276

Your thoughts welcome. Bill W.

CB500/550 / Tank sealer
« on: November 14, 2018, 07:13:03 AM »
Hi All,
Just wondering how easy/hard it is to remove old tank sealer. The one I bought hasn't been cleaned out properly and the sealant has peeled and the metal has rusted underneath. What would the cost be to get it removed? Is it a DIY proposition?  I have the option to return the tank to the seller?
Any advice appreciated. Bill W.

CB500/550 / Electrolytic Action?
« on: October 30, 2018, 07:24:06 AM »
I have read on the .Net forum about the use of stainless bolts to replace various covers on the SOHC bikes causing problems with electrolytic action between the alloy and the stainless.
Have any of you had problem removing stainless bolts/screws that have been in situ for a long time.
If this is a problem, would a copper based grease prevent this happening.
On a personal note, I always fit dry to ensure the proper torque because of the alloy.
