CB500/550 / Tank badges
« on: October 15, 2020, 06:31:46 PM »
I have just taken my CB550F2 tank for a refurb and re-paint etc.
I have a set of silver with black background HONDA tank badges.
The centre to centre distance between the badge mounting holes is 80mm.
I seem to think the tank mounting points are a different distance apart, smaller I think.
I’ve e-mailed the painter to ask him to measure the distance between the mounting points on the tank.
What is the normal distance between mounting points?
How are the badges fitted to the tank?
Is Silver with Black background the correct badge?
Thanks. Bill W.

If the battery has built-in electronics to process the output from the "Neanderthal" Honda charging system, why not use a standard 12volt battery

charger to charge it??

Picked up seat this morning. It really is a first class reproduction of the original. Looks better than the photo’s. Next job is the tank.

I went to see him as I had an original cover that was in a bit of a state.

He said that he could repair the original cover but couldn’t give any guarantees it would last too long.

The original was 40 years old and not in very good condition.

I opted for a new seat cover, to be a replica of the original. The Honda logo was embroidered.

The seat pan was powder coated and the foam sorted.

To see the quality of this work makes me realise that the Honda seats were made by an accountant. They were good enough for the job.

I am picking it up on Monday, but from the photo’s it looks quality. Not cheap but worth it.

Thanks Nurse Julie for recommending Ed Crowther at Core Motorcycles.

Could it be a stray “puck”from a CB550 rocker cover?

Hi Ross,

The seat is a complete original, and has just a small tear in the cover, and the foam needs sorting if not replacing. The seat base has been welded, and needs tidying. I would like to keep the original cover and get the small tear repaired. It then needs reassembling using the appropriate bits that I took off it when it I  stripped it down. If you think he can do this, I would be happy to use him.

Cheers

Bill.

CB500/550 / 1977 CB550F2 seat.
« on: February 11, 2020, 06:14:31 PM »
Hi,

As part of the ongoing process to get my 1977 CB550F2 sorted, I have decided to start on the seat. The base has been sorted. The foam insert is worn and the original cover has a small tear in it. I am happy to replace the foam, unless you know anyone who can cut out , fill, and reshape the foam. Also looking for someone to repair the seat cover. Looking for recommendations.
Thanks
Bill W.
