CB350/400 / Re: My 1975 CB400F restoration project
« on: March 27, 2024, 09:56:16 PM »
Thank you..

I have been taking the bike for shorts rides around the neighborhood doing test n tune and feeling it out before i go any distance.

I waited a few rides to get the RPM's up and go a little faster. i noticed On WOT it was bogging at about 6500. so i ordered some slightly larger main jets #78 They still have not arrived. I noticed it was getting a little worse and doing it at about 5000 .

Not sure if anyone has had this happen? For 1 the rear brake light was stuck on. The battery was Not getting charged with my short little rides.I charged The battery overnight.

The first test ride it made it to redline and smoothly accelerated in all RPM ranges! Rode it for about 20 miles. all the plugs are a nice Amber. So I will not Be Yarding off the carburetors again to re jet.

Nice bit of lateral thinking, well done. Did they make them in a range of colours?????

Yes! Any color you desire.

CB350/400 / CB400F Air Cleaner Lid
« on: March 25, 2024, 10:30:48 PM »
Until i can afford/find a replacement lid for the air cleaner i was going to fabricate something for temporary .

I remembered i had a bag of old Phone covers and cases so i thought i would give it a try.

Just so happens a Galaxy Samsung S22 lid with a Patch on the camera window snaps down on the housing perfectly!
It doesn't look to bad either.

CB350/400 / 1975 CB400F Rear Tank Rubber
« on: March 22, 2024, 05:10:28 PM »
I am wondering If I am missing something simple here with removal and Installing the Rubber over the rear of the tank on my1975  CB400F?

When removing the tank for the first time a couple months ago i broke the rubber trying to pull it back far enough to clear the Tab .

I bought a new OEM Honda rubber. Putting it on the first time seemed like a super long stretch. Then when removing there is nothing really to grab on to. Using a hook i got it out far enough to get my fingers on it. Seems like the tab on the tank could be a quarter of its length.

Am i missing something ?

On the other Honda models its very easy

I finally received the rest of the correct Keihin brass from CMS yesterday. I got the carbs assembled and  setup on the bench as close as i could get them synchronized.

As I suspected the previous owner put in some larger Jets and messed with the Needle position. There were #90 main Jets #44 slow and the needle clip was at the bottom groove. pulling the needle up to full rich. I replaced with #75 main #38 slow and clip in the middle position .

Took it out yesterday between showers. Wow what an amazing little bike. ran like a Swiss watch.

I'd be tempted to put it back then. Can you get pictures of the alleged damage?
After their muckup with the primary chain and not identifying the correct gear I wouldn't trust them.
I hope they don't introduce a problem that wasn't there before! 😕
I was thinking too, maybe a bit out of their depth? They did really good work on my electrics and other things before though. At this rate I'm going to have to accept there is some scuffing (see pic) and hope it isn't much to worry about? Heres a bigger pic of the same. See the scuffing?

Honda gearboxes are very robust! I agree with dragon to just roll with it. If it was working before tear down and it shifted through all gears and didn't kick out of gears i see no problem.

What are the symptoms you are experiencing?

Literally it all has to work together like a well oiled Machine. Everything needs to be checked.

Worn pins or the grooves in the shifting drum.Worn or bent forks. Worn dogs and sockets. Sloppy bearings. And wear or other  issues with the shifting arm not engaging things all the way.

from the exploded view it is #13 23521-377-010
Top gear(6) countershaft

are there visual signs of wear on any of the gear sets?
Check for bent shifting forks

The 3 nubs on the gear are the "dogs"
the selector is called the "fork"
Thet "socket" gear is called countershaft gear.

It seems clear to me what he is after. As The dogs are what get rounded and cause problems
