Just tidying the garage and found this about 6 foot away from bench that I stripped 500 engine. I don't recognise it as anything I stripped but now worrying that it's something that 'flicked' out and didn't notice. Anyone recognise it from the 500 engine? Could be from anything that I've worked on before but worth a check prior to building engine back up. It's 6mm x 10.5mm.

Just gone into the garage and checked crankcases (been in a plastic bag since painting) - and Julie was right - gearbox bearing retaining pin! Was there last time I looked! I would have found out it was missing just before I was going to assemble the engine - and had to order one and wait - very lucky to find it randomly on the floor several feet from where I was working on the engine.

Who nows! I have bagged and photographed everything as I disassembled them - the pin must have fell out when working on the cases - I thought they were friction fit but obviously wrong!
