Title: CB 550K3 wiring loom questions
Post by: davidrsmith on June 20, 2023, 10:04:26 PM
Hi

For the second time in two years I have had a total electrical failure on my K3 ( US import), the first time I had to replace the ignition switch and a wire in the wiring loom under the petrol tank as it had shorted out. I had the same problem in the late 70's when I owned a K3, that was the mechanics who changed the fork seals routed the harness incorrectly on reassembly.
I haven't started to trace the fault this time yet, but I am thinking of biting the bullet and changing the main wiring loom, hence some questions:

1) Where is the best place to buy a new loom from, I live in Gloucestershire, I'm sure somebody told me a while ago that there was a guy in Cheltenham who makes them up, has anybody used him or have any contact details?
2) Are the looms on the DS web site any good for US import K3's?
3) Can I change the main loom without totally stripping the bike down?

Many thanks
Dave

Im in Glos, never heard of anybody in cheltenham, DS loom will work ok as only difference on us is front running lights in indicators which you cant use in uk anyway.
There is a member (Alan) on here who does looms so ask him.
Most common fault was ign switch and aftermarket are not to good whilst oem damned expensive

Not 100% sure but there's a possibility I have an old K3 harness lying around, not used since the 80s. I'll see if it surfaces. Might be a 500T one though, broke one of those around the same time.
