Many thanks Erny. I think I have solved it now. Took of the washer/spacer from the bottom bearing, may have had the oil seals mixed up as I had the large one on the bottom but replaced it with the smaller one which now sits nicely inside the headstock. Larger seal covers the top and all has fastened up nicely. Many thanks for your help.

Problem is original balls are long gone so nothing for comparison.

Thanks for that. I think I will dis-assemble and re-assemble without the washer as there was no washer on the original ball races

Afternoon Guys, well lockdown has finally accelerated the rebuild of my K3. I have installed a set of Pyramid Parts Taper Rollers, the lower one I have put the thick shim, the dust seal and the bearing in that order. The race is fully seated in the headstock but when offered up the bottom yoke is held so far off that the steering stops don't contact. Any tips or experience?

Looking at it again it almost looks like a P so I'm thinking it could be a badly done B. I've measured the thickness of the shells with a Micrometer and they are 1.53, 1.52, 1.54, 1.59. 1.61.

You look at things for ages and just can't see!!! On the rear of the crankcase in big letters is crudely stamped C C B F B, could this be the shell code? but not sure the relevance of the F?

I have a 550 K3 engine for rebuild. I have all the original shells, one crankcase half has them in place the others are loose. They all look in good shape but there doesn't appear to be any code on the cases. Any tips for sorting this out please?
