Hi all
Thought I would share my build
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200930/7f61a24201504b8fe9608a9934491a41.jpg)
Sorry it’s a link to the rd site as member there too as Honda has a yellow 350lc stable mate for company plus a one off hybrid that is slowly evolving
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200930/8e3b26d19450dbf610f79c2199efba1b.jpg)
Hope you like and will and will add some more pictures and updates as progress is made with the tank and panel restoration and engine rebuild this winter
Best wishes always Al

That looks a very clean Honda 400 what needs rebuilding ?
Is that a US model with the chrome rear lamp bracket and black indicators?
-
Hi
No it’s a UK bike
Is just the original rear light holder was rot and fancied something different hence the non standard indicators and headlight, bar end mirrors and twin horn look etc
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201001/81c7041bf645cc1afa55d3a6d3cde654.jpg)
Done lots already such as rebuilt wheels with ally rims with SS spokes from Central Wheel, rebuilt the forks with rechromed stanchions and added that factory look twin front disc upgrade
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201001/b1961e2126790fb21c3d5212f0bd5bdf.jpg)
Rebuilt the clocks
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201001/8dc7b34fe058bd5c8f8210ad83b8cfc2.jpg)
And done a few other changes like the Delkevic exhaust which sounds very nice and brings back that teenager rebellious streak

But to finish her off I would really like to restore the tank and side panels back to new and pull the engine for a full rebuild including that upgrade to electronic ignition just its a bit more complex than the RD
(Carbs already rebuilt with new rubbers etc tank lined with a POR15 tank lining kit and added an in line fuel filter too just to ensure no muck gets back into those rebuilt carbs
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201001/7addfa990c8593d4e2f3abf9340c06b8.jpg)
Even managed to find a brand new chrome chain guard the other day finish off the rear
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201001/6e47ae8eed39df2effe2fd26a9772593.jpg)
And to be honest I love my RD350Lc but the little Honda now has somehow found a special place in my heart, something I thought would not happen when I got her around last Christmas
Will keep the thread updated
Best wishes all Al

Looks good Al.
-
Nice work, I love it! ;) What did you line the tank with?
-
Hi
Used a POR15 tank kit from Frosts as I used the same kit on the RD with no problems
The tank looks to be original and was not bad inside with just some light rust in the usual places for a 40 year old tank but on stripping and rebuilding the carbs there was a lot of fine sediment and fine rust and on removing the fuel tap the fine gauze element was knackered
So lining the tank and also adding an inline filter should hopefully both keep the tank inside rust free and clean for the next few years and keep the rebuilt carbs in fine fettle
Catch up soon
Best wishes Al

I love the alloy rims I'm considering those but I fancy gold coloured ones - I think I have an obsession about gold alloy wheels from the 1970's era.
Hence the rims on the wifes Merc.

Hi Ted
If you were serious about gold alloy rims it might pay to phone Richard at central wheel and ask how much to supply some gold alloy rims
One thing I can say is their alloy rims and SS spokes kits are of extremely high quality and there service / help is good too

And I think for allot of pattern parts there is some right rubbish out there and you only get what you pay for
(As my mate used to say “cheap today dear tomorrow”)
Best wishes always Al

Hi Al,
Yes I am serious about going for gold alloy rims but it's going to be early new year I think before I decide to have them or come to my senses and have silver alloy instead. With my hubs being original alloy with patina it's a conundrum.
My BiL has recommended Central Alloy so I will speak with Richard nearer the time. Do Central Alloy have the measurements for the original wheel offsets when they build them or do you have to specify?
Cheers
Ted
-
Hi Ted
I built my wheels myself and measured them before hand
For the front there is no offset and when I built the front I measured the distance from the outside disc face to the rim (as I had a dual disc front end) using a straight edge. And for the rear, there an offset which I made a note of before cutting the rim off so I could use the original rear hub but cannot remember off my head what it was
I think if you check with Richard at Central Wheel they may already have this info when they build your wheels
Best wishes Al

No offset on from or rear wheel.
-
Hi Julie
I guess my rear off set was because I measured the difference between the distance from the bearing assembly on the cush drive side to the rim and the face of the drum brake to the rim so that my rebuilt wheel was the same

But it all worked out ok in the end

Great video of your rotating wheel - I'm impressed with your own wheel build.
-
Yes first time for a wire wheel build but like to challenge myself
Lots of google YouTube and a dollops of patience
Plus built myself a decent wheel building fixture which without I don’t think you can do the job
Suppose thats me and the toolmaker in me
