maybe more of us will go next year,

and contact Trigger for a replacement steel pushrod, they work perfectly

I think it would be a great place for a SOHC.uk meet, I will remind everyone next summer.

Oddly enough I saw lots of CB400s and CB500s and only two CB750s, none of the owners I spoke to were on this site and most hadn't even seen it!

Thanks for the info about Triggers clutch pushrods, I recall reading about them on this site so I'm going to get one.

Here is a picture of a Clutch actuator modification on a race bike.  Most other racers had converted to CB550 clutches incorporating a CB550 clutch case and actuator.

Hi,

I have just returned from an excellent five day break over on the isle, it was my first visit to the Classic TT; it won't be my last.  The bikes are WAY more interesting and varied  than the modern TT bikes, great sounds and smells (Castrol R).

My CB500 Four complete with broken clutch pushrod performed great, the poor thing even got thrashed for the first time in years. There were stacks of CB500RR's in the paddock, they sound sooo good out on the course.

Here is a picture taken at Keppel Gate overlooking Kates Cottage and the Creg in the background.  TAKE MIDGE REPELLENT !!!!

Well now, I think that all this book learning has brought more heat than light to this subject.

...............................Oh! wait a cotton picking minute, that could be the answer: perhaps they have figured out a way to make them burn less hot, and so more of the energy that they use is turned into light than regular halogen bulbs, this could explain why they last a little longer too.

Just a thought   8)

Can't find any review or product info that says the Philips Ecovision draws 20% less power. Even Philips doesn't make that claim - they say it just lasts 4x longer

HI,

You need a Phillips EcoVision Energy Saver; this is the one that the manufacturer claims 'up to 20% energy saving'  here is a link to the internet site that carries the information you have been looking for:

http://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/12342ECO/ecovision-h4-12-v-60-55-w

I bought mine from Ebay and so far am happy with it, and I ride lights on almost all the time.

Try this link to Ebay:  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351595613785

Best regards  Rob

How much ? same set and you get all 4 >>http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB750K-K1-K2-K3-K4-K5-K6-Carb-Repair-Kits-4-Repair-Kits-Include-48-1912-/261752454445?hash=item3cf1a97d2d   ;)

Thats much more reasonable, is there much difference in quality in these rebuild kits or should I be fine with the eBay unbranded one?

Morning.

I have been hanging round this site a lot of late, and I think that I have learned; if Trigger says buy something you should buy it !!

But I still recommend you watch: hackaweek "73 honda CB750 cafe racer rebuild " on Youtube.

Oooookay,

So a few bits arrived in the post today, my replacement ignition and remote tank which got me a little excited as finally i can see if this thing starts right?

So first thing i notice is in key position 1 i seem to have power, the neutral light comes on, if i press the horn i get a very weak sounding fart noise,no headlight and unfortunately I've already stripped off the brakes and rear light so can't check those right now. Key position 2 the neutral light goes out and the horn ceases to work so somethings going on there. The connectors that go into the ignition connector block short with each other mega easily but i made sure they weren't touching each other and still no luck. Electric start also didn't do anything.

Anyway i thought its worth trying to kick it anyway to see what happens, plumbed in my remote tank (credit to Jamesh_sussex for the link) and fuel just immediately pissed out of carb 1&2 from the areas circled. Haven't got my haynes manual to hand so apologies for the lack of technical terms (and knowledge hah).

is this likely to be stuck floats? Was hoping i could see if it would run first before rebuilding the carbs but looks like this is going to be my next job. Just want to hear the old gal growl  :-[

Hi,

I'm pretty sure position 2 on the ignition switch is the parking lights ie. the front pilot light and rear tail light only, and nothing else..

if so you should be able to take the key out when its in position 2.

keep at it.

Where's My Old Bike? / Re: Who has got CB500 four Reg no XFM 460L

Love the paint job...
Also, what's that strapped to the front down tube?

Yep it had (has?) work done on it not just the excellent paint, but chrome engine cases, crinkle finish engine, and other bits and pieces, it was fast too.  Far far to good for some spotty twit (me) to throw it down the road after about 3 months of ownership.

But on a positive note, I felt so bad about what I had done to it I bought my current 500/4 in 1983 and have kept it reasonably nice ever since as a sort of sentimental tribute.

And well sussed K2  its an air horn compressor, great if you didn't mind waiting for a few seconds for the horn to sound after the button was pressed [ Guests cannot view attachments ] .  Ho Ho

Here is an arty photo of the bike.

HI,

By my reckoning its 40 years today that I 'wrote off' this bike. However, it turns out its still on the database as SORN.  Does it still live?

Here are a couple of photographs before I wrecked it.

Rob. Threads go off track all the time on this forum, it's all part of the fun of it but, eventually all questions are answered and problems solved just via a somewhat convoluted route.

Hello Julie,  yeah I know, I've spent ages reading this site since I joined it's GR8.

Now I'm going to have to jump to part 14 to see just why he builds engines upside down. Cos right now I can't even understand how it's even possible, does he keep everything in place with Honda bond  just before he 'sungs it up'.  Ho ho

Hi.
Have a look on Youtube for vids by 'hackaweek' called
"73 honda CB750 cafe racer rebuild "
I am enjoying watching all thirty odd episodes and I don't even own a CB750.

Enjoy Rob.

Underdog,  I'm so sorry,  I seem to have inadvertently thrown a metaphorical spanner into your thread, now it's all about that fella on Youtube. Is he Australian Perhaps; and could that be why he builds engines upside down.  8)

I'm new here myself, but from what I've read.on this excellent forum I feel sure that you are eventually going to find all the information and help you could ever want.

With electronic ignition I am drawing too many amps with the H4 halogen headlight
Did you measure how many amps?

but also improve the lighting.
I have not seen convincing results yet, on the contrary.
Why not simply choose the Philips H4 Ecovision. Gives you better vision than standard H4, lives longer  and draws 20% less.

+ 1 for the Phillips Ecovision from me.
If you decide that it is compatible with your setup go for the Ecovision 'Energy Saver' instead of the standard Ecovision

This is what I bought on eBay

ITV4 so you will have to watch on the ITV Hub.

By the way the owner of that Phil Read replica is a very naughty man, at the least the bike deserved a polythene sheet over it. Still I'm sure that its going to be rescued now which is nice.
