Title: Recent Spammer Registrations
Post by: SteveD CB500K0 on June 07, 2019, 09:28:27 AM
We've had a rash of spammer registrations recently. Most are filtered out automatically by www.stopforumspam.com (http://www.stopforumspam.com) to which I (we) subscribe.

However, that database relies on forum owners reporting spammers, which, when added to the database results in all future registrations from that username, email or IP address are barred.
This has always worked reliably but the spammers have developed a counter whereby they register but don't post for a while (sometimes weeks) and by the time they are reported they have already made it onto loads of forums.

The upshot of this is a request from me for diligence by those who are on here every day.
If you see something suspicious* then please PM me as I will get it immediately. I'll then simply delete them and their rubbish.

* normally anything that has a load of links in it or stuff that isn't anything to do with SOHCs.

Ta

Steve

My two penny worth.........I receive between 3 and 6 Spam E Mails every day.........most of them are so amateurish they are simply laughable........whilst some are quite convincing - but I just treat them all with caution so they are not really a problem to me.......although I could see those who are less wary or in a great rush - getting caught out.

I used to segregate them all and then pass them on to Talk Talk.....my ISP....to deal with, but seeing as I never received any feedback and I still receive Spam, then I concluded that Talk Talk either can't solve the problem or they don't give a monkeys.

Like most things these days, Government and Government Agencies are always telling us that they are 'going to clamp down on villains', but they rarely do anything.

Maybe it's worth questioning our Councillors and MP's what they are going to do about Scammers, as if many Constituents are raising the issue, they might actually take it seriously.

Firstly can l just say that l’m not a spammer but also not a great one for posting anything. I do however, have a read through the posts almost every day and would like to say how interesting and knowledgable most of the posts are. I do own one of those common blue 400/4’s.
Thank you for a great forum and for keeping this oldie entertained.

Cheers

Mo
