CB750 / F2 Fork slider ribs - removal?
« on: April 24, 2015, 11:33:44 AM »
The F2 forks have a rib cast in front and back which makes polishing a tad difficult, plus they don't look as 'clean' as earlier versions.
I'm thinking of machining the ribs off, what I'm not sure about is whether this would reduce the strength significantly? Earlier models seem to do OK without ribs, I'm thinking it may be for manufacturing ease.
But would value the collective wisdom here....
Cheers.
Pete.

Apart from the paper and head gaskets, here are the contents of the Athena gasket set bought here
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360811566994?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Gaskets look OK to me, and there seems to be a lot of talk about these are bad these are good, but I used to regularly build suzuki and yamaha 250 bottom ends with gaskets tapped out of cornflake boxes and never had a leak. I think its more down to the mating surface prep..

I've an Athena set on its way, the pic shows many O rings, I'll let you know what it actually contains when it arrives.

Well after 4 months trying, I finally got my date certificate, 6 November 1972, seems odd when the chassis number had a F in it it was registered 6 November 1977, I wonder how much research is actually done.

Well, I've emailled the Customer services generic email address with a title 'FAO Sarah - YOM', included the two certificates, how 2 different frame numbers can have the same engine number is a mystery, clearly they just edited the 1st cert, rather than re running the query, also included photos of the frame number and plates, and a table from the other SOHC website which clearly shows my frame number in the 1972 / 73 range, and the F serial number in the 1977 / 78 range, so we'll see.

Problem is they don't acknowledge anything, so you've no idea whether they are doing or ignoring....

Cheers guys,

Yes its an import, I'll try that number, I think the confusion is because the chassis number is valid with or without an F and the call centre agents don't get the issue, I'm not bothered about tax exempt, I just don't want a 72 bike registered as a 77.

Well I finally got a replacement certificate, but all they have done is edit the chassis number, so I now have a CB750K3 frame they recon was made in 1977, with engine number 3112568

My chassis number is CB750-2212497 they've dated CB750F 2212497, both are valid, but 5 years apart.

I'm on the brink of giving up and calling the scrap man in, useless muppets...

CB750 / Flashback
« on: July 03, 2014, 07:46:13 AM »
I was building a set of K2 carbs up onto the new bracket Ash sent me, Thanks again Ash, when this smell 'appeared' and I was right back to 1977 cleaning some CB250 carbs up in my Dads garage!! It was just the smell of the old petrol stains in the Honda's carbs, but it took me right back, really strange feeling.

Anyways, its renewed my vigour to get the YOM Certificate sorted out with the people at Honda!!

CB750 / Honda YOM Contact

Does anyone have the name of someone senior at the Honda Year Of Manufacture team?

Its been three months since they sent me an incorrect YOM letter, they've inserted an F in the frame number and its come back 1977, should be about 72!!

I've written twice, emailed phoned, and am just getting nowhere, basically they have sold me a service not fit for purpose, vosa wouldn't accept a frame number different to all the other documentation.

I'm hoping to find a named contact, to try and pin something down, before I have to resort to legal steps....

Cheers.

Pete.

Its the bit circled which has broken off on mine, I tried welding it, but the metal is like an aero chocolate bar and just will not weld neatly.

CB750 / K2 carb throttle spindle carrier.
« on: June 06, 2014, 08:39:44 PM »
My carb throttle spindle carrier / mounting bracket is broken, on taking it to bits I find the 10mm shaft is running in a 13mm bore in the ally casting.

Before I go hunting for another casting, are there different sizes, or should there be a bushing in each of the casting lugs which the shaft runs in?

do these issues ever stop, I had less hassle with the E Type.....

Cheers.

Pete.

I'm currently battling to get some sense out of the Honda YOM service, my 72 came back as a 77 with a spurious F inserted by them into the chassis number, have written back with loads of info and pics of the frame no. emailed, phoned, but no progress report in over a month....
