Title: Z1 seat hinges
Post by: UK Pete on November 10, 2014, 05:22:29 PM
Some of you might of read that my sandcast has had the seat hinges ground off the frame, The guy i bought the bike from Will at classic bike imports has a frame on ebay with the hinges on but that option of buying the frame just for seat hinges is to expensive, Richard (RGP750) has ever so kindly said he can have a go at making some which is where i have left this so far, but looking at z1 seat hinges today i have noticed that i might be able to adapt some and weld them on my frame, does any one have a zed 650 , 900 or z1000 and can measure the distance between the two pin retaining holes

Thanks all for your help,
Paul thanks for the measurment
Rich i was thinking of a plan B just incase  , but ideally i would like you to go ahead and make me some, and there is no hurry at all, the frame has been stashed away and i have plenty of other things to do
Bitsa, yes your spot on he is a top fella

Pete, I think if Rich is ok with doing that it should be the best way to get what you want.
To cut original ones off and reuse them would mean grinding off the welds which have melted part of the original bracket away so they wouldn't look the same when re-used.
As this is your ultimate resto I think it would appear more as original with new material arc welded as factory to the frame, i don't think you'd get that otherwise. It's good of Rich to offer to recreate them.
