CB750 / 1st Decent run on the k1
« on: May 11, 2010, 05:02:59 PM »
When i went up to boxhill on sunday, i took my sat nav so i could check the speedo accuracy, the sat nav said 70mph the k1 speedo said 69, you cant say better than that for an old bike, anyway the reason for this post is i thought i would say how well the bike was on the motorway, on the way there i held it at a constant 70 mph for about 25 miles, then on the way back i held it at 80mph, even taking it up to 90 on short blasts, my milage for that day was 75 miles, the bike was faultless and a real pleasure to ride this was the longest ride on the bike since i bought it and it filled me with confidence for some more trips out on it, i was only really going to ride this bike a few hundred miles per year , but i may well clock up a thousand or two as it rides so well, i am however going to replace the front tyre i got a slating off from some other riders at the hill, they were comenting on the state of my tyres and how the front still looked like the original,
i think i best get them changed, Has any one got any suggestions as to a suitable tyre for this bike?

Other Bikes / No interest in the old Hondas at moment
« on: April 25, 2010, 10:21:24 AM »
Hi all, it is surprising how  you can spend every minute available restoring and building these lovely old Honda's, then all of a sudden have no interest in them at all.
I Have been enjoying the early spring sun and riding some of my other bikes making the most of it while it lasts, but the result from that is i have no interest in my current projects, even my K1 has sat parked up while my other bikes get a turn at been ridden and enjoyed, i do hope i can get the balance right, and keep at it with the old bikes as all i want to do is go on my lovely fz1 at the moment, it is a whole different ball game with this bike, i have spent almost a

CB750 / 750 Engine build
« on: April 09, 2010, 06:03:57 PM »
I am about to rebuild my engine, i have all the parts i need, and have sprayed all the engine cases up so its all ready to go, my question is does any one hear who rebuilds engines or has rebuilt the honda 750 engine in the past use any gasket cement in addition to the gaskets or just use the gaskets dry.
The reason i ask is that in the past on other old jap engines i have built , i have found the need to use a very thin smear to the casings to take up some of the uneven or slightly scratched surfaces.
I have used THREE BOND LIQUID GASKET 1104 on my crank cases but wondered if a thin smear of this or something else in addition to the gasket would be of benifit. also the cylinder head surface is far from perfect is there anything i should use there i really do not want to take it out the frame and all apart again once its done.

CB750 / Enjoying the K1
« on: April 02, 2010, 07:36:19 PM »
I have been taking every opportunity to ride my K1 lately as i really enjoy riding it, the sound from the exhausts is the dogs boll--ks
i am getting about 90 miles to a tenner of petrol , is that about right for these bikes, also what length should the rear shocks be, the reason i ask is the bike is really hard to get on the center stand , and also Yoshi mentioned they looked like 550 shocks .

CB750 / 750 F2 Mastercylinder disasembley
« on: March 08, 2010, 05:55:23 PM »
Does any one know if the plastic fluid bowl on the 750 front brake mastercylinder is meant to come off, as i have undone the two screws on the inside  pulled and taped it but it is stuck on there real tight, so i have given up before i do any damage, i wanted to totally dismantle and respray it ,without this plastic bowl it would be much easier.

CB750 / Candy Ruby Red k1
« on: February 24, 2010, 04:13:10 PM »
HI all as you may have picked up from some of Ashley's posts i have bought another bike, well  i have actually bought a K1, this is mostly original and has a beautiful 40 year old patina, everything seems to work on it and the chrome is  good, the only thing i will be changing at the moment is the cush drive rubbers as there seems to be some slack there( or is that normal), so i will be picking peoples brains on where to find bits and all sorts of questions relating to K1's.
The reason i bought this is since joining the forums i have really taken to the old Honda's and as you probably know i am building 2 F2's at the moment, but i really have taken a shine to the early K models, ideally i wanted a KO but they seem to be way too much money, anyway i have been on the lookout and bid on a few only too usually loose out , but this time i got lucky and so have just spent the last of all my savings on this old beast, still i think its an investment and i reckon if push came to shove in a few years the return on it would probably be better than the interest payed by banks.
I am going to get it on the road for the summer and maybee replace a few small bits in the winter, the only major thing to do is the paint as it is faded, but even that adds character to this fine 40 year old machine, i have been out side looking it over today putting it in various positions and admiring it, also i just have to keep starting it to hear that glorious roar from the H300 exhausts,
So hear are a few pictures of it as it is unrestored

CB750 / Feeling really pleased with myself
« on: February 21, 2010, 06:57:25 PM »
Today i thought i would spend a few hours in the garage on the F2 , so i went out and got my cylinder head out, this head has been getting me down as it had a seized bolt which the PO had just drilled through, and left the really rough corroded head fused to the aluminium.
The bolt i am talking about was one of the four bolts under the rubber pucks ( the ones people usually forget and hammer the shit out of their head breaking off fins before realising), anyway i had tried all sorts of things to get this out but it was corroded in there real bad and was in such an awkward place to access, i had an idea  to get an easy-out in the top of it and jam it in tight then turn the head around and tap it through from underneath, after many attempts i won the battle and got it out. A proper eureka moment!
Also there are a few stripped threads in the head one of them a cam tower fixing bolt thread, so i for the first time used my helicoil kit  drilled it out and inserted a new helicoil thread, i am so chuffed that i have got out there in amongst all mess and done something constructive, its back to full on enthusiasm for me , and to add to the excitement DS emailed me yesterday, and the box of new goodies i ordered quite a while back is on its way so i can crack on with the rebuild.

CB750 / Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: February 14, 2010, 08:44:07 PM »
I need some help or should i say a boost of motivation and perhaps encouragement, i took on my restoration project of a 750 F2 a few months ago and got stuck straight in with it, i have bought 99% of the parts needed and done a lot of the hard work, but i have run out of steam and reached a sticking point in the rebuild, it is almost leading me into a depression, i have no idea why but i have these big plans of what i am going to do to it i then go out into the garage to make a start only to have a look at it and then just walk away and leaving it to another day and so on the same thing the next day, and so it goes on and on.
I have sat down and had a long think on why this is happening, i can only pin point the cold weather as one main reason for the lack of enthusiasm, another is i have got  so many bikes and so much junk that the practibility of doing it all properly with room to lay everything out is just not an option at the moment, i am building a new storage area at the side of my house to gain some more room, i  am hoping that this may help,
Does any one else  get like this and just loose the momentum and interest, is there any advise or suggestions people can make to help me out hear as i am considering selling up all the bits and being done with it.

« on: December 22, 2009, 05:44:45 PM »
I was looking at my new taper roller bearings for my F2 which came from dave silvers, they come without instructions ,not much of a problem but there is a big thick washer that has the same internal diameter as the lower bearing, would any one know if i have to use this, the thin original one and the rubber seal, or just the new thick one and rubber seal. or do i have to use the thick new one atall
