Title: Rob.b - Rob Birkett. RIP
Post by: Nurse Julie on September 21, 2017, 09:07:05 AM
Sad news. Forum member Rob.b (Rob Birkett) had died, he was 61
Rob went to the doctors at the end of March with back ache. After some tests he was diagnosed with terminal Spinal cancer with secondary cancer of the lungs. He was given 3-6 months to live.
He married his partner, Sara, whilst in hospital a couple of months ago.
We got to know Rob as late last year he got Graham to do an overhaul on his CB500 K1 engine. He was the funniest and nicest man you could ever meet and he was a true biker, loved riding and was gradually riding around the coastline of the UK. He retired a few years ago, so had plenty of time for getting out and about.
I last spoke to Rob about 3 weeks ago and he was still optimistic of getting out on his bike again but, it never happened.
The funeral is on 22nd September in Chester and I will send a condolence card, from the Forum, to Sara.

Rob was the original SOHC nut in the nicest possible way, great fun guy who was as fit as a fiddle at the beginning of the year.

Also obviously didn't know Rob, but can't help feeling empathy for his family as he was part of this community.
Going through something similar now (not me, close relation) and the impact of the speed of everything is head spinning.
Only the good die young. Peace be with you.
Peter

Rob wasn't a forum member for very long, just under 2 years and he wasn't a prolific poster but if you read his posts you can see his funny side. We only new him personally for a year or so but, he was one of those chaps that just made you laugh. Even when Trigger was giving him a severe bollocking about the state his engine was in, he still laughed, although he tried very hard not too as he could see Trigger was being serious.
Just very sad to loose someone so nice at such a young age.

I too didn't know Rob but sad news. When something happens like this - particularly when he was recently fit and healthy, it makes you realise we are just part of nature and too enjoy our health while we have it.
R.I.P Rob

All been said already. Didn't know him either but sounds a top chap. Very sad and brings our own mortality very much to mind. RIP Rob
