I had my headers done by them in 2015. Decent price and fairly quick return.

Why make several trips with bike parts when you could take the whole bike?!!  ;D

Probably like teaching yer granny to suck eggs here Julie, but please make sure you wear eye protection if you're skooshing carb cleaner about.

It's like when you peel one of those wee oranges, a stream of juice ALWAYS finds your eye, and it bloody nips too! :D

Have you seen this Julie?

I've posted this before and i've still to find anything as comprehensive.  It's absolutely brilliant for the enthusiastic amateur (and fairly idiot proof)

The collector box with 2 fixed pipes, 2 loose pipes and 4 finned clamps was 185 including packaging and delivery from Birmingham to South Scotland.  Pretty reasonable I thought.

I had my header pipes and collector box rechromed by Broadway Brass in Birmingham. Fairly reasonably priced too.   Have a look at the gallery in their website at chromefix.co.uk

Oops, forgot to say who did the chroming. Doh!

It was done by Chromefix in Birmingham.  (also known as Broadway Brass Limited)
I didn't have to do any prep work at all, just sent them away and they came back, i think, within a fortnight.
I must admit i was surprised that they actually did exhaust pipes as i'd heard about the chemical contamination issues and how some other companies are reluctant to take on the job.

Have a look at their project gallery, they do some nice work.

ETA... the 4 finned clamps were also included in the price.

I was fortunate enough to win an ebay auction for 3 original (fairly scabby) headers and collector box for 31.77.
It was missing the number 1 header so i phoned Dave Silvers and asked if he had any old solid number 1 pipes lying around after their 400f renovation project.
20 quid later i had the missing pipe.

185 quid later they were all shiny and new  :)

As well as the Haynes manual, I found this parts list invaluable when I was rebuilding my 400four

Hi Yorky, have you seen the document that Tim Boughen has produced?  It's basically a complete run through of the process of disassembling, cleaning and replacing 400/4 carbs.  It's mainly done with pictures and I can honesty say I wouldn't have had the confidence to tear my carbs apart if I hadn't seen it first.  I really is that good!  See link below.

All the best and god luck.
