These Honda 400's are just beautiful.
If you were going to make perfect motorcycles........Hondas would be what you made......of course there are other makes.......but over the years didn't Honda get it just right....time after time.
Well done John.....enjoy your bike......as my SIL says, 'There will be plenty of time for sleeping when I'm dead'.

I used a length of angle iron to lock the bits when I replaced the Oil Seals on my Kwacker ZZR1100. Locked everything up quite nicely. It failed it's MOT on leaking Oil Seals....although it was actually the oil mist from the WD40 that I always used on the exposed areas of the forks - but the MOT Tester at Kays Motorcycles wouldn't have it ! I should have wiped the forks over before I put it in for it's MOT !
The following year it was failed for the headlamp aim.....even though I said if any minor adjustments were needed, just to do them and i'd happily pay. Getting the bike home again and back to Alf's in Worthing was a right ferking PITA !
I never went back to either Dealer again.

Big respect to you fella........frightens me to death just the thought of being out on that big ocean in a small boat !
A workmate of number one Daughter did the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge (Rowing) some years ago.........fantastic achievement with a crew of 4 rowing across the Atlantic. He still does presentations about his trip to Schools around Bolton and he's still raising big bucks for the various Kids Organisations that he supports. Top, top bloke in my view.
We were able to track his boats progress and how the other boats were doing every day so maybe the sohc Members will be able to do the same with your boat........give us some details of how we might follow your exploits and I'm sure you'll get some extra dosh from us 'armchair warriors'....I'll certainly chip in.
Lastly.......I wish the best of luck to you - and ALL the participants.

Learning to drive a car in the 60's my Instructor turned up one day and couldn't stop chuckling to himself. I asked why.......he'd just heard that the Lady who owned the local Female Only Driving School was out with a female pupil and was applying her make up in the vanity mirror when the pupil came to a roundabout and asked which way she should go......."Straight on" said the Instructor....so she did....right over the grass roundabout !

Let me stop you good Folks in your tracks........it's NOT us who are crackers......it's the politicians who are crackers in this country....aided and abetted by the Senior Civil Servants who all suffer from elbow and arse disease.
The real worry (for us all) is that no matter who we elect next time - from whatever party, they will be no better.....they are all useless - that's why they become MP's cos they can't succeed in any other walk of life !
Whenever Roy Hall and me meet up for a natter I always end up smiling at how much alike we are with our take on life......just two ordinary blokes from ordinary backgrounds, but we both see just what's wrong with society, government, councils....you name it and we can see the problems and usually we can see the answers. It ain't rocket science is it !
It will soon be Christmas.

LOL.....my confession is that I bought my Zundapp Bella Scooter from QPM around 1965....I was 15 years old - before I was old enough to hold a Licence. I paid £5 for it and they delivered it to my house in Eccles. I bought it from their other (earlier) showroom on Broad Street, Salford...just around the corner from the building shown in this photo.
It was a pig of a machine and I never got it to run properly....probably me and my youthful lack of knowledge. I can't remember what happened to it. I then went on to buy a few Lambrettas before I found out the joys of Brit Bikes with a 1958 BSA 650 Flash....which I changed the oil every week or so with oil from the Machine Tools where I worked on Nightshift.....I was unsupervised and I had a lot of free time....and the oil was free !

I rarely post pics of my bike rides out cos I don't go too far nowadays, but seeing as the George Formby Appreciation Society met in Blackpool this week.....I thought 'Why not'. This is the Blue Plaque outside the great man's former home in Lytham. It's a lovely spot and I believe he spent some happy years looking out over the Ribble Estuary from his beautiful home.
My sister lives across the Estuary....it's just a few miles from me, but to visit I have to travel into Preston, cross the River Ribble and out again to Hesketh Bank (Southport)....about 30 miles each way. DOH !

Regarding the Bonhams Auctions Roy......I'd be more concerned at their Fees......
What bike from your lovely stable are you thinking of selling - as you might get a fair offer from a forum Member.....by the time Buyers and Sellers Fees have been factored in, you might not be any worse off selling privately.

Same with Railway Stations (in every part of London - and every big City/ Town). Years ago NOBODY wanted to live next to a Railway Station, Sidings or Depot.........for the simple reason of the frequent noise of Maintenance works taking place at night.
Over the years things changed as many Sidings & Depots became superfluous as the big Depots became the hub of Train Maintenance and the 'local' facilities were sold off (I also found the same when I worked for Railtrack Major Stations in the 90's).
Once the new Apartments/ Flats/ Houses were occupied, we received a string of daft complaints about our noise levels ! Although our responses were polite, they usually centred on the fact that the Railway had been there for 150 years and there wasn't much point in expecting us to move them now.
My Daughter lives around the corner from the Royal Lytham St Annes Golf Club........which is going to host the British Womens Open in 2026.....I'll suggest that she rents out her house for that fortnight to the Golf Pro's and stay with us.....she can buy the beer during her stay......a win win if ever I saw one !

Welcome to the sohc Forum Matt....I think you got fair warning TBH. When buying at Auction.....as always, 'Caveat Emptor' applies.

I think you'll just have to cough up the dosh......and worry about it after, but I can't see you have a case for a refund.

'Haynes Manual for CB350 and CB500 Fours up for grabs.......it is 'as new' as I didn't keep my CB500 for long.

I never feel or felt fear before going out for a ride on my bike....and I'm certainly no hero ! It's the same in the car..........
Cos I'm an old timer and have always ridden bikes since I was 16 (in 1966) I often get parents who tell me that they won't allow their Kids to ride a motorbike 'as it's just too dangerous', but I always answer them that by the time newbies have been through their bike training nowadays, they are probably as safe as they can be. As far as my concerns about me riding a bike, I honestly think that if I have an accident, then it will probably be my own fault...partly or wholly. I'm sure that attitude keeps me better prepared for riding safely.....especially when I commuted daily from Dorking to Canary Wharf on my bike.
Funnily enough back in my TA days, when we were parked up waiting to start on a Regimental or Battery move (which was often for an hour or more), I was in and out of the Land Rover every 5 minutes for a pee ! I couldn't sit still......and once we were moving I was fine......I have never figured that one out......fear, anticipation, adrenaline or what !
