Thanks for confirming that. I think I started off not touching no. 3 but then forgot and adjusted them all.

Cleaned mine up & was going to paint them, but took bike out for a ride instead ... oops! Then cleaned down bike & already exhaust  clamps are rusty after a fortnight! :(
I have a spare set which aren't too rusty which I'll paint then swap over ... wonder if exhaust will come off enough to swap over fins clamps without disturbing pipe to collector box &  muffler seals?

CB750 / CB750F1 Carb. Balancing ....
« on: December 09, 2018, 10:54:48 AM »
Hi all. Last year I got a carbtune manometer setup (with metal floats rather than mercury...). At that stage I had 2 goes at using a carbtune setup  ... initialy got it running pretty good (with a friends mercury setup) but felt that one carb was a bit out ... so had another go with my own metal float setup (shouldn't have bothered). Managed to get the balance levels better but in doing so the idle speed is now higher than it should be...
My questions ... is there an order you should balance them (like ... 1&4, 2&3 ...)? Does it matter which carb is the one you set the others to? I am aware of the need to balance once all the other bits are checked ... oil, air filter, plugs etc. I will have to reset the throttle linkage stops anyway as they are now quite a bit away from standard... Last question ... is the metal float  carbtune unit  as good as the mercury unit(the reason I ask is that the first time I balnced carbs I used a friends mercury unit & 2nd time I used a metal float setup that I had accquired...)?

Well ... I have answered my own question! Went for a ride (toy run) today & all is going well.

Have just fitted these and was wondering if someone knew if black wires fit to the -ve or positive spade terminal on body of coil? Does it matter as it is just 2 ends of a coil I think? I thought maybe this is the same as black/white wires of original coils?

Replacement seat and straightened side trim bits fitted & looking pretty good - the seat most probably better than my old seat before bike got stolen... have removed grab strap so I can try and get rid of a wrinkle in the seat cover by the grab handle mounting point... anyone got any ideas? Maybe I will just leave it... you don't really see it much once the strap is in place...

Well I've finished rebuilding both locks & after reading through above & having cleaned out all the sticky grease from barrel and around lock wafers, i have decided to use the following:
Tygris R237 PTFE Dry Film aersol spray.
I will see how it goes ... now on to sorting out the broken seat and getting all the muck off the rear shocks and generally from the frame.

EDIT: Spray worked really well & aerosol did indeed dry off. Maybe not the cheapest but did seem to work really well ... mind you I won't know for years most probably!

White grease for locks

Doesn’t any form of grease eventually pick up dust & grit & then mess with lock?

Thanks to Dave (thegreatpan) my ignition lock now rebuilt & working well .. fortunately had the correct wafers from one of Dave’s locks & my old seat lock to match my key ... any recommendations on lock lube ...  I was thinking of some form of ptfe dry lube spray but having trouble sourcing something. I have ptfe spray but the aerosol doesn’t seem to evaporate off ... so not really what I’m after?

CB750 / Finned exhaust clamps cleaning up & replating?
« on: September 23, 2018, 09:18:05 PM »
Hi does anyone have any suggestions on how to rejuvenate the finned exhaust clamps? I can get them clean but would then like to get them treated as they seem to be prone to rusting?

Thanks for confirming that! Just had a bad feeling about not having control of where the bike was! I'll see about claiming against cost of repair ... could just seeing it winding me up & messing with my blood pressure!

Picture of 2 halves of my lock...
Also if you look at 2nd picture above my ignition lock is snaped off where the steel section starts....basically the lock barrel is missing ...
