Misc / Open / Phil Read at Mallory VMCC Festival of 1000 Bikes
« on: June 22, 2009, 08:00:21 PM »
If anyone wants an introduction to Phil, be at Mallory on Sunday 12th July and I'll introduce you.

Spent the w/e with the guy at Spa and now I'm an official "Readie's Roadie"...  :o

Here's me and Phil at Spa - he's sitting on the 1974 World Championship winning MV 500

Misc / Open / Clocks / Instrument Repairs?
« on: May 23, 2009, 08:34:11 AM »
My shiny new CB900FZ is missing the trip reset button from the speedo.

Where do you guys go for instrument repairs.

This is something (together with paint) that I'm quite happy to give to a professional!

Other Bikes / Is there a UK CB900 Forum?
« on: May 23, 2009, 08:13:01 AM »
I have some fairly specific questions about original specs that may only be answered by a real anorak. Is there a UK forum?

Eg:

My bike has black square mirrors. As far as I can make out the '79 FZ had chrome round mirrors? Where can I get them?

My bike has a chrome grab rail fitted to both sides of the seat. They don't look right (but may be original?)

Black plastic front indicator stems cracked - can I get replacements?

Need an owners handbook

etc

etc

(see what I mean?)

Other Bikes / Just bought a CB900FZ

I nearly traded my 500/4 for one of these in 1979.

Now I have one...

Misc / Open / PDF Editor needed for CB500 Parts Book
« on: March 17, 2009, 01:48:47 PM »
Bryan Jones sent me a very precious CB500 K0/K1 Parts Book which I have scanned to pdf (157 pages!)

Checking the file, I find that I've missed out one of the contents pages and scanned one of the other pages twice.

This took me about 3 hours to scan so don't really want to do it again!

Does anyone have access to a PDF Editor programme so that they could fix the file for me before posting it on the site(s)

Site Feedback / FAQ / How to... / Character Sets?
« on: February 03, 2009, 10:28:58 AM »
John, the recent weather and posting activity leads me to ask if there's a setting that allows additional characters to be used in posts.

Like a "degrees" character for example.

I can do it on my Blackberry under "symbols" but SMF doesn't seem to have the facility (unless there's an add-on?)

BTW: Triumph Forum doesn't do it either (they use vBulletin)

Misc / Open / Favicon Competition!
« on: January 28, 2009, 09:58:25 AM »
See that little black square with the bike in it on your toolbar/address bar/bookmark/favourite (*delete as appropriate)?  That's a favicon and has been added to the site (by John).

The picture is a Triumph Sprint...

so if any of you out there have a good picture/logo/graphic you'd like to submit, we'll have a little competition. Winner gets his/her icon used on the site!

"Rules":

1. Image must be square!
2. Image can be any size (I'll reduce it)
3. Image must be simple as it has to be rendered to 32x32 pixels

Fire away!

Misc / Open / We're Back! (Again)
« on: January 19, 2009, 12:22:16 PM »
Some of you may have noticed that we've been off the air for a day or so.

John has re-homed the site with a new hosting company, hence the strange (temporary) url that you may see in your address bar.

Other Bikes / I love my Triumphs too...
« on: January 08, 2009, 10:24:22 AM »
Here's what's in my barn.

The Sprint ST is my daily rider (23k miles in 18 months)
The Daytona 900 sounds gorgeous but is a bit big and heavy
The Daytona 1000 is the Triumph factory test bike that went to MCN etc. I have a video (by Duke) where Chris Dabbs drops it on the IOM during a test ride with Keith Heuwen.
The Trident Sprint is great, a real mile muncher.
The Trophy is horrible!

Not all my bikes; just live here.

Announcements / We're Back - board deleted
« on: January 08, 2009, 10:09:58 AM »
It's a couple of years now since John resurrected this forum and 18 months since the "We're Back" thread was used.

So I've deleted it.

I've added a board for "Other Bikes" as I know that many of you (like me) have non-SOHC Hondas and even other makes! (shock)

CB500/550 / So which way round should the rear spindle go?
« on: January 03, 2009, 11:31:00 AM »
Mine has the castle nut on the left (looking at the bike from behind) which my tyre fitter says is the wrong side. He says that they were fitted the other way so that right-handed mechanics could undo them more easily  ???

Misc / Open / Happy New Year - Off to the Ace
« on: January 01, 2009, 08:37:02 AM »
Well, it's 0830 and I'm due outside Bulldog Triumph at 0930 to meet other hardy souls who agreed to come on the Ace Cafe "Hangover Meet" this morning.

They'll be open at 0900!

Mild (ie >5 degrees) at the moment, no frost, dry roads.

Empty roads!
