Title: Carburettor wrench tool
Post by: Erny on March 11, 2022, 09:54:23 PM
I'm considering to make this tool, as I'm quite bothered using normal 8mm socket and screwdriver for carb sync. Each time I tighten nut it moves screw a bit and sync is not accurate...

Found this original Honda tool, want to make something similar https://www.cmsnl.com/products/wrench-carburetor_079083230200/

If somebody has it, can you pls measure key dimensions for me?
Dimensions I'm looking for see attached picture

I have the longer and IMO the better version.

Sometimes the carb sync screw is quite deep down inside some carbs where that one would struggle to reach or the frame would get in the way.

I'll post a pic of it with dimensions if your interested Erny.

The tool in the link is too short for SOHC carbs and why would you want to make one when they are cheap to buy >>> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/352431313684?hash=item520e8b1314:g:kT4AAOSwLSZb~mov

Agree. That’s the one I use. It’s very effective, but not perfect and needs technique.

I find the flexible one by Honda pretty versatile...

The genuine Honda one looks like the link Trigger posted but it's slightly different, no screwdriver grip for instance, more like the knurled top in your pic. It's better made as well but then again it's a lot more expensive.

Could that be the Honda one that was criticised by John Wyatt in an article in: Classicbike, Oct 2006, p.66? It's a good article, not only about syncing, but also maintenance and tools in general. I'd like to upload that PDF, but unfortunately it is 13 Mb...
So let me quote John Wyatt:
"In order to adjust the carbs you can use a Honda special tool: carburettor synchronisation wrench part number 07908 4600200 at 24,31 [...] but John says: It'll cost you an arm and a leg and it's rubbish. Just buy a carburettor adjusting tool for a tenner from M&P or any decent bike shop."
His words, not mine. Price was in British pounds (2006).
I myself have always used a 'modified' simple 8X9 mm pipe wrench in combination with an ordinary wrench on top. I hope you can see in the pic, I've put a piece of vinyl tube over it 1 cm from the end where the ordinary wrench goes, to prevent the latter from sliding down the pipe. Inside the pipe wrench a simple straw to narrow it for the appropiate screwdriver. Not super, but it worked for me. You could also weld it.
