Anorak's Corner / Koso gauge RPM set up
« Last post by DomP on Today at 02:44:41 PM »
I've fitted a Koso multifunction gauge to my cb550 with the rpm wire connected to the positive of one of the coils.  I can't get it to register anything on the rev counter regardless of the settings I've entered.  Has anyone else on here any knowledge of Koso gauges or similar set ups?  Im trying not to bother Roo again😀

The original tank (red) on my 750F1 leaked in the mid eighties probaly 85 or so, I saw an ad in MCN for Honda parts (David Silver spares) and bought a new CB750F2 tank and seat  never realising that Silvers would one day grow into such an empire.
In those days they were cheap as chips as well.

Cheers

I would guess that sounds right Ash. I know he buys his stock from all over the world; it must be pretty interesting as I would guess it would be between him and CMSNL as to who can get to the spares stash first and claim it!

Got to hand it to DSS though, without him how many of us would be in a position to have restored one of our old bikes back in the 90's. Just wish he would give a deal to the VJMC and SOHC Forum members though and he would probably benefit from it in the long run as more people would restore more bikes and thus order more parts from him.

Welcome to the forum Phil.

The CB650Z was a nice bike back in the day and was probably the ultimate development of the CB550 engine. They were overshadowed at launch by the then new CB750/900 DOHC models that obviously took all the glory. I know very little about these engines other than the primary chain wear was not the issue on these engines as it was on the 500/550's before it. Good luck with the carbs, I think these used the PD type and known for issues.

Lots of advice on here and you'll never be stuck with a problem.

@deltarider

Well the known brand are more expensive and I asked DS about theirs and they couldn't tell me the resistance. So I checked with Ash, and he said go for these as the resistance is documented and correct for the bike.

Thanks for your advice and feedback, I get where you are coming from, I am also wary of cheap parts especially on the Wild West which is Ebay! However on this occasion, these coils are from Hendler, a UK based company, and supplied to the company I purchased them from, also based in UK, direct link below:

Sounds like you had a bad experience in the past, but alas it makes no difference to me if these were made in UK or PRC, especially as I already have them and they work fine!

Time will tell ;D

I know DSS buys most of his stock from dealers getting rid of their old or slow moving stock (or he used to, I guess the retro market has picked up a lot since the 80's & 90's and the stock is now in demand by people like us). Where did DSS buy his initial stock from to get started, was it Honda UK although Nigel's post would make that seem impossible if Honda themselves sent it to landfill?
