CB350/400 / 250 Superdream
« on: January 08, 2023, 08:48:49 AM »
I am restoring a 1981 CB 250 superdream. It has an aftermarket two into one exhaust system. I think that all models had two into two, can anyone confirm this?

I see that dss has a 4 into 4 in stock for a 550 K3 - would this fit a 77 f2?

CB500/550 / Nut jammed in primary chain
« on: July 20, 2020, 10:43:08 PM »
Like an idiot I managed to drop the bike while on loose chipping, got it upright tried to restart and after a bit of a rattle the engine stopped dead. Anyway after a complete tear down I found a nut jammed in the primary chain - looks like a cylinder head nut to me and although I have had the head off in the past I know I have not dropped a nut so I can only assume that the nut was stuck somewhere in the lower crankcase for years and was only disturbed when the bike tipped over - all very strange but the good news is that it is all up and running with new primary chain, oil seals, cam chain etc, not a job I expected to be doing though.

CB500/550 / Sticky Float Valves
« on: July 09, 2020, 02:08:32 PM »
I am often getting sticky fuel valves, the petrol poors out the carb but is fairly easy to cure by giving the bowl a tap. Is this a common problem? Carbs were stripped and cleaned a thousand miles a ago. Is it related to modern fuels perhaps they are drier if you know what I mean. Anyone using any aditives in the fuel or using the higher octane variety?

CB500/550 / Broken cam chain guide
« on: April 12, 2020, 05:45:53 PM »
Thought the bike was rattling a bit more than usual and on inspection I found the broken cam chain front guide, the adjuster seems to work as it should and I can't see any other problem. Anyone of you guys seen this before? wear and tear or what might have caused it?

CB500/550 / CB 550 Two Neutrals
« on: February 21, 2020, 07:48:38 PM »
I seem to keep finding a neutral when changing 4th to 5th or 5th back to 4th, not all the time but quite often. Anyone else found this problem or is it my shifting that is at fault?

CB500/550 / CB550 Rocker Cover
« on: January 22, 2020, 07:35:04 PM »
I had an oil leak which turned out to be a crack in the rocker cover, I have found a used one in very good condition but I think its an older one as it has 8 rocker shafts. Will it fit my engine as it is or could I fit the 4 rocker shafts from my old one? there is also some side to side movement in the rockers is this normal?

CB500/550 / Headlamp Bowl
« on: January 02, 2020, 07:31:18 PM »
I would like to replace the headlamp bowl as it has a few cracks, I have found several on ebay but they are different to mine as they all have a large indent to one side (photo) mine is quite shallow and it is very difficult to get all the wiring in, perhaps mine is not the correct one?  why the large indent?

CB500/550 / Pannier/Top Box Rack
« on: December 07, 2019, 10:50:32 AM »
I would like a top box on my CB550 so I need a rack, the only supplier I have found is Craven Equipment who do a rack and fitting kit for a CB750 which they say should fit mine although they haven't tried it, they are to far away for me to go and test fit so that is not an option. Has anyone fitted one of these? Is the 750 the same size at the rear end?

New Member Introductions / CB550 owner in Devon

I have just about finished restoring my 1977 CB550F, it was in a very bad state having stood since 2000. I have spent countless hours getting it to this point but that's okay because I am now retired, I suppose I should have known that it would be a money pit - all those parts add up! Anyway I have ridden her a couple of times before the rain came and all is good apart from a little bit of carb tuning. Although I have only just joined the forum I have been getting a lot of info from it during the build so thanks to all who provided the help.
