Title: My old CB500 (GCS 333N)
Post by: Raymond_Y on January 11, 2019, 09:47:11 AM
Hi, I am a newbie to the forum and am about to start a 1971 CB500K0 restoration, and was curious if anyone knows if my CB500 from when I was 19 (now 61) is still out there.  It was a black CB500 reg number GCS 333N.

Raymond

DVLA say no record of that reg so that probably means it no longer exists as there is no V5. If it does it would probably have to be re registered with a different reg.

A 61 year old with a 500 K0.

We should form our own club

Welcome Raymond, I'm also 61 (just), or should I say '21 with 40 years of experience', and now with a 750 K1, so I'm wondering what's the age of forum members.......

Cheers,
Andrew

Welcome to forum Raymond. Back in the late 70's I went with a mate to a motorcycle shop on Brixton Hill (I can't remember the name of it now, maybe someone on the forum can remember?). He bought a Dunstall CB500 with yellow and black paintwork. It looked smart, sounded loud and went like the proverbial! I wish that bike was still around.
Enjoy yourself on here.

Welcome to the forum Raymond, any chance of some pics of the CB500.

I'm 71 and had a new CB500 in 1972 and another three since then, i think they are the nicest of the fours to ride even though i now have a 750 K1 that i am more than happy with.

Welcome in! I’m surprised the dvla dont have a record of that number.... do they destroy the records of officially scrapped vehicles, surely not?. I can find records of all my old vehicles but i cant remember if any of them were officially scrapped by me. I definitely recorded one with them as being stolen but it still shows up on their records..

I think if it was off the road since before their records were computerised it would not be on record. No saying it isn't in some barn or lockup under a layer of dust. I bought a lathe recently, the seller was clearing a deceased in laws shed, he'd already bought himself a 1930s velocette or something of that ilk, still carrying its 1959 tax disk, not been touched since then. He was pretty sure the lathe was put there then the bike afterwards and neither touched til last summer. It took me a full day to get the lathe freed off and working but it was worth it, 100 years old, and only needed 1 thread cutting gear replacing - precautionary, it had some chipped teeth, thought I should get one while available. It's so old its treadle powered so can go in my shed that's not got power to it.
