Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Honda CA77/78 spares
« on: June 03, 2019, 08:38:46 AM »
Couldn't sell my CA78 complete so now dismantled it to sell as spares. Lots of good spares available at sensible prices. Too much to list but, Seat, Frame with NOVA, rear light, complete engine (dismantled for refurb), stand, forks, swinging arm, shockers etc etc etc

CB500/550 / CB550K3 PD46 carb jet sizes - the eternal querstion
« on: February 28, 2019, 08:30:06 PM »
My 1978 CB550K3 PD46 carbs have got main jets of 90 and slow-running jets of 38. Is that correct? I struggle to get it to run smoothly at low revs and it always feels like it's starved of petrol when I open it up. The Haynes manual only refers to the earlier type carbs.

CB500/550 / CB550K1 petrol tank versus F1/F2/K3/K4 tank
« on: September 05, 2017, 12:35:28 PM »
My imported CB550K1 came with a tank that's from either a K3/K4/F1/F2 (the one with the flap as opposed to the K1 tank which has a protruding cap). Is the K1 tank a different size from the other(s)? It seems that when I push the seat down in place it fits far more snugly over the tank than it should, so much so that it's started to rub the paint finish off the tank. If they are different sizes then I need to do a swap.

CB500/550 / Plugs and caps
« on: August 19, 2017, 07:29:39 AM »
My CB550K3 has electronic ignition, DR7ES plugs, but also has 5ohm resistor plug caps? Is that right or should the caps be non-resistor? Does it actually make any difference?

CB500/550 / CB550 Rims
« on: July 28, 2017, 07:05:27 AM »
Can anyone tell me the best value rims (with sizes) to buy in the UK for a CB550 that look something like the originals? I'm restoring the bike but I've got limited funds and not wanting to spend a fortune.

CB500/550 / CB550K3 - the secret of the perfect tickover
« on: July 06, 2017, 07:33:56 AM »
My P46A carbs are spotlessly clean inside. The jets are totally clear. The timing is spot on. Get the main jets into play and it runs superbly. But with vacuum gauges connected how do you adjust those pesky air screws to get the perfect tickover? At the mo the screws are all set to 1.1/2 turns out. Where do I go from here?

CB500/550 / CB550K3 clutch shims
« on: June 10, 2017, 10:33:57 PM »
Just taken my K3 clutch apart and found two very thin steel washers behind the retaining circlip that holds the basket on the shaft. Looked it up on CMSNL and found that there are three thicknesses of these washers (Item 15 on the clutch exploded view and part no 90458323010 is the 0.1mm thick option). So they obviously act as shims, but how tight should they be holding the clutch on the shaft? Is there some specified gap between the circlip and the shims? My clutch does move a fraction up and down the shaft and I wonder if this contributes to the famous CB550 clutch rattle.

CB500/550 / Honda CB550F1 centre stand
« on: April 17, 2017, 05:03:40 PM »
My F1 has no centre stand. I've sourced a stand but I don't know whether it's for a F or a K. Can someone please post some pictures of their stand from front, back, and looking down on it on the left hand side so I can see if it fits?  Thanks in advance.

CB500/550 / Wanted CB550 camshaft sprocket
« on: April 14, 2017, 05:22:18 PM »
For goodness sake. I love my CB but it does cause me pain. Always wondered exactly why my 550K3 engine had been rebuilt and now I know why. The cam chain must have broken which makes sense of the damage to the head in one cylinder, but what I didn't realise and have only just noticed is that the thrashing chain had taken a big chunk out of the camshaft sprocket. It has worked fine up to now and may last forever more but I'd just be worrying about it if I put it back. Has anyone out there got a sprocket please? I think the sprocket was standard on all 550F and 550K bikes.

CB500/550 / PD46 carb connecting fuel pipe o rings - THE answer
« on: April 12, 2017, 11:06:47 AM »
With thanks to Gerben in Holland, I just want to share that Viton rings with an outside diameter of 9mm and an inside diameter of 5mm absolutely fit the bill. They're a smaller id than the originals but a bigger cross-section at 2mm, but they feel like they've really seated solidly when you put the tubes into the carbs and I've leak tested them today with 100% success. They're available from the major stockists.

CB500/550 / PD46 float height - again
« on: March 31, 2017, 10:22:30 AM »
All together now - what is the definitive method of measuring the 14.5mm float height on a PD 46 carb? I've read all the threads that exist and the options seem to be .......:

A. From the carb body to the underside at the free tip of the float.

B..From the top of the gasket when on the carb body to the underside at the free tip of the float (which to me makes no sense cos the gasket lays in the gasket groove in the bowl not on the carb body)
