Do D7ES exist? I thought there was only D7EA?

According to the model guide on SOHC there's no such thing as a CB500K3 (unless the guide is incorrect). It went K0-K2 from 1971 to 1973. It's also quite clearly got a CB550K3 tank on it and P46 carbs which I believe were 550K3 & K4. Also the clutch is CB550 unless someone has used the clutch and actuating mechanism from a 550 (which fits without modification). P registration would make it a 1975 bike. Very odd all round unless I'm wrong.

Found one at a jumble a few months back.

Oddjob I'm surprised you say there's more cap than flap tanks available cos that's not what I'm finding and I've even got 2 spare flap tanks myself.

Also need a spring

Which model bike do you have because not all 550 tanks are the same size? There are some on ebay but none of them are cheap. Supply and demand I'm afraid.

Oddjob maybe that's the answer. The tank I have is candy blue, which is a colour for F1 tanks but not K tanks. Are you sure that the F and K tanks are different lengths? If it is correct then it's likely that I have a F tank. Bottom line is I still need to find a K0 or K1 tank with the raised petrol filler.

CB500/550 / CB550K1 petrol tank versus F1/F2/K3/K4 tank

My imported CB550K1 came with a tank that's from either a K3/K4/F1/F2 (the one with the flap as opposed to the K1 tank which has a protruding cap). Is the K1 tank a different size from the other(s)? It seems that when I push the seat down in place it fits far more snugly over the tank than it should, so much so that it's started to rub the paint finish off the tank. If they are different sizes then I need to do a swap.

Didn't these have an indicator buzzer originally? I think some people took them out hence the spare connection.

My CB550K3 has electronic ignition, DR7ES plugs, but also has 5ohm resistor plug caps? Is that right or should the caps be non-resistor? Does it actually make any difference?

Get a life people. This obsession with originality does my head in. If someone wanted to get my bike back to "original" they'd have to  replace the immaculate Sankei OEM exhaust with an original in equally good condition or get an original rechromed; but would it be "original" because the chrome certainly wouldn't be. It's completely OTT and almost illogical for a 40 year old Jap bike. Mines got LED lights (except the main beam) so I have no charging problems. Allen bolts in the crankcases and on the carbs cos they're easier to work with. Electronic ignition cos it runs better. Pirelli tyres cos they grip better. It gets ridden every week not trailered once a blue moon to a show.

Yes but apart from that Mrs. Lincoln what did you think of the play? It's a bitsa bike and the seller is just trying it on. But there is a price it will sell at because not everyone who goes "wow" at it will pull it apart like everyone here has. My 550K3 has allen bolts on the engine, and the crankcase sides are unvarnished polished aluminium. it will never win a prize but people who haven't got the full spec in their heads still go "wow" at it so I'm happy, and if I do sell it there'll be someone who wants it for it's looks and not it's failings.

CB500/550 / CB550 Rims
« on: July 28, 2017, 07:05:27 AM »
Can anyone tell me the best value rims (with sizes) to buy in the UK for a CB550 that look something like the originals? I'm restoring the bike but I've got limited funds and not wanting to spend a fortune.

I decided to get my PD46A carbs vapour blasted which meant the daunting task of stripping them down but I used the excellent guide that Brian Louis Barnes has in the SOHC files, took tons of photos (especially that pesky spring arrangement between Carbs 2&3) and it went well. If I can give a tip it's to replace ALL cross-headed screws with allen cap bolts especially the ones that hold the lifting mechanism onto the slide of each carb.

I'm looking for US bars for my 550K3. Having got used to the much more comfortable position on my Virago I'd like to enjoy the same on my K3. And I already have a screen on my K3 and yes it makes a vast difference.
