Other Bikes / CB750 & Triumph Trident
« on: October 26, 2023, 10:53:06 AM »
I was very happy running my 750 K2 over 10 years or more, and then someone asked if I would sell it. Initially I decided not to, however whilst away on extended holiday in Japan I thought that  as I'd owned it for some years and enjoyed it, if it helped someone else onto a classic I would let it go.

Quite a few weeks later and back home again I contacted the prospective buyer and agreed that I would sell if asked. During that time I had expressed interest in a bike for sale on the Forum, explaining that I would only progress things if the 750 was sold. As perhaps often happens, the deal went cold shortly afterward and I decided to let things stay as they were, letting the seller on the Forum know this.

A few more weeks went by and I was talking to an acquaintance who sells quite a few classics and had a 1972 Trident for sale with 12,004 miles on it, and only 184 miles since 2009 when it was re - imported into the UK. He had also received an enquiry for a Honda 750 that a buyer wanted to add to his collection of bikes for regular use. We did a straight swap - Honda for Triumph.

The Trident was duly delivered a few days later.

It's been a very interesting time since then, with lots of issues to sort out on the Trident, all relating to running problems. It does not help that I knew absolutely nothing about British bikes when the Trident came to me, however I feel that I do now!

Finally the bike is performing as I think it is intended to, and it really is a pleasure to ride. If anyone is interested in the issues and solutions that arose, I'll happily write more, however as this is a Honda Forum I won't clog it up otherwise.

CB350/400 / Headlight main beam warning light - CB400/4 F2
« on: August 29, 2022, 07:02:30 PM »
I've been helping a friend with his very recently purchased CB400/4 F2.

Whilst with me today for carburettor balance etc; he said that he had noticed that the main beam warning light came on with the lamp on dip and then extinguished on main beam. The head light itself works properly, mirroring the switch position.

I suggested that he swapped the main/dipped beam wires over in the headlight, which he did. The headlamp then worked in the opposite sense (i.e. main beam switch position was bringing on the dipped beam and vice versa, however the warning light still came on with dipped beam and went out on main beam.

The bike has been fitted with a new wiring harness (amongst much other work carried out prior to purchase) and, with my very limited electrical skills, I have run out of ideas to help.

Could anyone on here point to the problem?

Many thanks!

Misc / Open / Parcels from Japan
« on: May 23, 2022, 04:35:23 PM »
My wife was due to receive a number of books bought in Japan (so that they are in her own language) and posted by one of her school friends. Today her friend telephoned to say that the Postal Service in Japan have refused to accept them for dispatch.

It seems, after research, that due to the reduction in flights between Japan and Europe caused by their inability to transit Russian Airspace at present, postal services by air mail have been suspended to many countries around the world, including the U.K.

At present, there is no indication of when things might return to normal and parcels in transit are being returned to sender. Presumably, parts sourced from Japan will also be affected?

I do wonder whether this is also an effect of "ETOPS", the distance that twin - engine aircraft have historically been allowed to operate out of range of suitable emergency landing facilities?

Misc / Open / Seat base
« on: November 11, 2016, 08:52:08 AM »
I've discovered a glass fibre seat base for a CB750 whilst having something of a garage clear out (at the time I was looking for some Yamaha YR5 parts that I know I have somewhere, for a friend). In doing so, I found a glass fibre seat base for a CB750 minus the foam, seat cover etc. It is clean and undamaged, so I thought that someone might like it for a project bike (perhaps Café Racer) or similar?

I don't want anything for it, so if anyone could use it please let me know and either collect from Norfolk or arrange for a courier and I will pack it.

CB500/550 / Bottom steering head yolk CB500/4 K1
« on: April 25, 2016, 06:36:24 PM »
Does anyone have a bottom fork yolk for a CB500 K1 that they are willing to part with? I took my 500 for MOT today and the tester noticed that one of the lock stops is bent on the lower yolk.

He has passed the bike anyway (it is the same dealership that I have used every time since buying the bike in 2003) but advised that it is replaced. I have checked on the DS and CMSNL sites, however neither has this part.

I believe that this problem must have been there since before I bought the bike, as nothing has happened to it whilst I have owned it. It is only noticeable because the handlebars are closer to the tank on a full right - hand lock than on a full left - hand lock. A check of the lock stops then shows that the left side is slightly bent back, whereas the right side is straight.

I have been told that the dangers of heating it up and trying to straighten it are too great to make the exercise worthwhile, as it is cast and likely to break.

Many thanks in advance for any help that is available.

CB750 / Help - please!
« on: January 30, 2016, 05:31:15 PM »
Does anyone have a rear wheel cush drive rubber damper for the CB750 (it is the smaller of the two, Part No:41241300040) that they might part with? I have just received my wheels back from a wheel builder and one has gone missing from the hub. At the time of despatch I did not remove them (although I did think about it) because I suspected that I might break the small rubber locating peg that is moulded into the damper itself.

If anyone has either one (or more) that they are willing to sell me, I would be very grateful. I have tried DSS, however they have no current stock.

I have tried to attach a few pictures of the Honda's, hope it succeeds! There should be three in total.

Hi all, I have just joined this forum having found it only a few days ago. I have a Honda CB500/4 (1974) and CB750/4 (1972). Both are standard (except for a luggage rack and top box) and in as near to factory fresh condition as I can make them, consistent with regular use. I also have a new Kawasaki Versys 1000 GT for holidays (I recently replaced a Kawasaki 1400 GTR with this).

Each of the Honda's covers around 1500 to 2000 miles per year and I do nearly all of my own work on them. In the case of the 750, this has included a partial engine strip to sort an oil leak from the top end of the engine.

I have quite a few parts for both Honda's if someone is desperate to keep a bike on the road, including a set of standard size cylinder barrels for the 750.

If someone is stuck for a translation from Japanese to English, my wife is Japanese and could probably help (she was, at one time responsible for translating technical documents for a Japanese shipping company, so is reasonably familiar with technical terms). We also spend quite a lot of time in Japan ourselves.
